Lets discuss tipping

not where i live its not...its the employer's responsibility to make up the difference up to minimum wage. the only exception i've seen is on parties with 15 people or more...the gratuity is included in the bill. So unless the employer adds the gratuity hidden in the price of the food...it is optional here in ohio
x2.

You're the only one who has posted that. If a waitress does not get tipped enough for it to average out to the minimum wage, then the employer must make up the difference. Therefore, they ARE getting paid at least minimum wage.

And since I have had a tip-based job (caddie), I usually tip pretty well AS LONG AS the service deserves it. 20% isn't out of the question on most occasions. If I'm feeling saucy I can give more. I'm not a cheapass (like some people on here apparently). One awesome part time job I had was working in the bag room at the same club I caddied at. I would make $7.50/hour + tips which was a sweet gig. Some days I could make $50 just in tips over a 5-6 hour period.

Though I do agree with the general consensus that the amount of the tip greatly depends on the service.

i work a job on the weekends, work anywhere from 3-8 hours/day and usually walk out with $50 bar minimum..plus my $7/hour.

$50 is rare thats if were completely dead, last weekend i walked out with $190 in tips for 2 days. not counting hourly.

I don't need a link. If you don't pay it, you are stealing end of story. Its the same as going to a car wash, getting your car washed, and not paying for it. You got the service, now pay for it.
oooooo we get it ....thats your law but not really a written law....gotcha

tipping is optional...you must be a waiter

If you are unhappy with the service at a car wash, more often then not, you are either washed again until you're satisfied, or refunded.

i wonder how many waiters tip fast food employees. as concerned as they are, that would be the non-hypocritical approach.
Sometimes I'm tempted to when my burger isn't half covered in ketchup, leaning to the left, and half of my cheese is stuck to the wrapper.

Good luck finding a fast food place that will allow tipping though. "This isn't art class." Can't have quality food preparation slowing down the line.
