hey guys. i recently built a box to hold my amp, and two subs underneith a custom seat in my truck. since i dont have much money im runnin 2 12" xplodes. which i knwo you all hate. but hey. they work. i had a box from bestbuy when i first started into it all and it sounded great. it was a sealed box divided. after installing my box though i noticed that at higher volumes teh bass basically hits a wall and stops. distortion starts alot earlier and it all just doesnt sound as good. included are pics of the new box. dimentions are 55x14x7tall. estimate teh middle section. the second picture is the layout inside the box with the top off drawn with paint.

Is that box you built ported? If so, what is the tuning frequency and the volume?

yeah its ported. the volume per chamber is very close to 1cft. give or take. and tuning frequency...help me out here.

welcome to the site, and what did you do, just build a boz and put a port in. cuz you cant do that, you have to tune it properly to get what you want out of it

so how exactly do you tune it? and thanks. i did it in a afternoon.

they tuning of the box is done by the size and configiration of the port

i did a little reading and it all somewhat makes sense. but if the box isnt big enough, wouldnt a larger hole trick it into thinking its in a bigger box because of pressure differences?

well. i cut out the ports to the full size of the baffles. and discovered my amp was set to 150hz for my subs. turned it down a bit. not sure which one of the two changes i did made the difference but the sound is back to par. check my gallery to see the changes. i thought the ports would be to big. but hey. it works. let me know what you think.
