I have a legacy 2000 watt 4 channel amp connected 2 my hi's n bass. On each channel i have a front rear and tweeter wired in parallel (10+10+4 ohms) which gives me a 2.2222 ohm load (the amp is 2 ohm stable) so im good. The other 2 channels i bridged fa my 4 ohm sub. The amp is 4 ohm stable bridged so daz not a problem. I had it setup like dis fa bout a month den 1 day bout 2 weeks ago my amp starting overload protecting n cuttin off. I disconnected my sub n it werked fine but as soon as i wud hook my sub bak up it wud overload protect n cut off. So i left my sub disconnected fa bout a week n da half den i got 2 da point where i cudnt live wit out bass any more so i tried 2 connect my sub bak up n 2 my surprise it werked perfect. I didnt have a problem wit it fa bout a week n da half but last nite it started cuttin out again. i know its not da amp cuz if i swap channels wit da hi's it werks perfect until i turn on da sub. Its all correctly installed and i have a good ground it just dont wanna werk wit da sub. I dont understand why tho cuz it use 2, da only thing i can thing is maybe the sub is droppin below its rated 4 ohms causin my amp 2 overload protect. if u have any suggestions on wut cud b causin my amp 2 overload protect n how 2 fix it plz post your reply. Thanx n advance all comments r appreciated!

Hey - if you want to talk like a thug, great. But on a forum, if you want help it would probably be a good idea to write so people can understand it.

Anyway - are you sure your tweeters are 10 ohms? That's an unusual impedance.

It sounds to me like you're just over-heating that amp. It may be 2 ohms stable, but a cheaper amp like that will run hotter and hotter the closer to it's lowest impedance you try to run it at. 2.2 stereo on front and 4 ohms bridged on back is more or less its minimum impedance.

Have you tried running it at a lower volume for a while to see if you get the same results?

And x2 on the gains. If your HU is decent at all you probably don't need to have them set at more than 1/2.

grammar ninja attack!!!!

wheres that **** .gif at??

Please try to use the English language with out insulting the intelligence of others with your poor attempt to make sense. Thanks.

I have never heard of a 10ohm tweet. Also legacy amps are trash. They will clip and go in to protect very easy. They also are extremily over rated. I'de bet that 2000 watt amp is only producing a total of 400 watts.

to be perfectly honest. your amplifier is a pice of junk.

it is running MAYBE 150w bridged in 4ohms, and MAYBE 50w to each of the fronts.

if i were you, i would ditch your makeshift component set, and get somthing that has a crossover, or just get some better coax's. unless you REALLY know what you are doing... messing around with odd impedances and wiring speakers together (tweets\mids) like that with no crossovers is not a good idea.

by any chance, would this be the amp?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4950&item=5761256775&rd=1

Model: LA1080

.: 4 x 75 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms

.: 4 x 25 Watts RMS @ 2 Ohms

.: 4 x 500 Watts Max Output

so- it does MORE power at 4 ohms than 2 ohms? wow. thats a first for a 4 channel amplifier. hell. for ANY amplifier. like i said. MAYBE 150x1@4(3\4 bridged), and 50x2@4 (1 & 2)

now your problem is prolly that you think its doing more, and you crank the volume and gain to make it louder, then it overheats.

for $120+ship - you got *****. (if you bought that amp for that price) id pay $20 for that amp.

you are better off keeping that amp for your mids\highs, and spending an extra few bucks on somthing not so crappy for the sub.

this amp here will do 200x1@4 ohms bridged. thats prolly 3 times more than what your 4channel amp is ACTUALLY putting out.

id suggest looking into it.

I have the original 10 ohm speakers in the front and rear that came from my stock radio i never heard of a 10 ohms speaker either but thats what it says on the back of them, also i added 2 dome tweeters that are rated at 4 ohms i use the hi pass filter on my amp and wired them parallel to drop the ohms to get more power. I have the gain set at about 3/4 but even if i turn it down it still overload protects i know the amp can't be getting hot and protecting out because it goes into protect as soon as i turn it on but if i disconnect the sub or turn off my eq it works perfect until i turn on my sub then it overloads again. I can't understand why it used to work but now it doesn't. The only thing i can think of is maybe my voice coil in my sub is messed up and isin't resisting 4 ohms like it should. I'm going to borrow a 10 from one of my friends to see if it still does it... I'll post the update as soon as i can. Thanks every1 for helping.

Yea i have the LA1080 but no i dont crank the volume and think its doing more i know its a crappy amp and i only got it for $20 off the street so its not bad for the price also its a good amp to use for hi's when i get my new Boston comps

then thats fine.

$20 is what i said right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

id of bought it. but i suggest not running a sub off those channels. it could simply be drawing too much current and going into protect. dosnt have to be thermal shutdown you know.

thats just me. and FYI - speakers CHANGE their impedance with the frequency and power that the amplifier is playing. at 10hz and 1000w, it would be 10ohms, and at 400hz and 10w, it could be .0914 ohms. (numbers out the *** - no idea)

so it could just be too much for the amp and it shuts itself off. i DOUBT its the coils on that sub.

I have a legacy 2000 watt 4-channel amp connected to my highs and bass. On each channel I have a front, rear, and tweeter wired in parallel (10+10+4 ohms) which gives me a 2.2222 ohm load (the amp is 2 ohm stable) so I'm good. The other 2 channels I bridged for my 4 ohm sub. The amp is 4 ohm stable bridged so that is not a problem. I had it setup like this for about a month then one day about two weeks ago my amp started overload protecting and cutting off. I disconnected my sub and it worked fine but as soon as I would hook my sub back up it would overload protect and cut off. So I left my sub disconnected for about a week and a half then I got to the point where I couldn't live without bass any more so I tried to connect my sub back up and to my surprise it worked perfect. I didn't have a problem with it for about a week and a half but last nite it started cutting out again. I know it's not the amp because if I swap channels with the highs it works perfect until I turn on the sub. It's all correctly installed and I have a good ground it just dont wanna work with the sub. I don't understand why though because it use to work. The only thing I can thing is maybe the sub is dropping below its rated 4 ohms causing my amp to overload protect. If you have any suggestions on what could be causing my amp to overload protect and how to fix it please post your reply. Thanks in advance all comments are appreciated!
that's what he MEANT to say...

I don't know why you guy's take time to edit peoples posts. They should have the common curtosy (Sp?) to use at least english which is understood by a normal human being. I know its internet blah blah balh, **** that. It makes you look childish and punk-like. IMO of course.

I read your post, got half way through, and gave up.

because like you... i too quit reading about halfway through... i'm sure some others did too... but if they could read it... i'm sure people would reply more... so i fixed it... big deal... if editing a post makes me look childish and punk-like... God forbid i ever do that again... i'll just be like the others and put "0wn3d" pics up and say GRAMMAR NINJA ATTACK and call him a thug and tell him his equipment is trash... no more editing posts for me... geeze...

See, they still do have some good people in this world.

anywho - you said it worked for a while? and whenever you do it - it works for a while?

that to me sounds like it can take abuse for a little bit until it hits the right note or just ammount of time.

just sounds like a crappy amp to me.
