LED light puzzle....

Hey guys! I have about 6 led strips wired throughout the inside of my car right now... I have a sub and amp and am wanting the leds to hit with the bass. But here is the twist... I have the leds right now wired in my car using a 1 channel 12 volt remote control receiver, I want to be able to have the leds hit with the bass, and then also be able to have it run steady without music on. please help and ask questions if you need clarification thanks guys!!

you will need a relay, a switch to switch between two states - constant and bass powered.

for bass strobing output you can simply use the sub amp output as your LED driver. there is just a few things you need to do first.

you want another resistor in series with the LED strips to provide additional voltage drop and set up the maximum current the LED's will see based on the maximum voltage the array will see.

you want a zener diode and resistor combination to limit the voltage across the LED's. this also allows the strobing effect to work at all volume levels (otherwise it would just light up when it was loud).

i've done this before at it works great.

hopefully that is enough direction. if you need a wiring diagram, you'll have to be patient and also tell me what the maximum voltage out of your amp (or gimme a link to the owners manual).
