do not tune at 27 hz. not recommended and everything else will sound like crap. your deff not going to get SQ when tuned that low

Ok then Dr. Subwoofer...

Lots of misinformation itt. Tune lower for better SQ, higher for more output. Typically (not always, but usually) subs with fs above 40hz are going to be more spl based. Those below 30hz are more sq based. Those between 30 and 40 are spl based. Again, there are exceptions, but this is usually the case. IIRC, Kicker subs have a high fs.

threw 2 type r 10s in there today. and they sound pretty decent. Would it be worth switching to the DC level 3 or Tc Epic?

I'd do 28hz for SQ myself...if designed well, it can also improve the low frequency response.

The DC will want more power to really shine.. I dont know about the TC
