Laptop to TV

I am trying to get my laptop conneted to my TV so that I can watch movies off my laptop on my TV. I have a cable that has RCA on one end and headphone plug in on the other. I use this to watch movies off my ipod on the TV. I was assuming that would work with my laptop as well, but apparently not. I get sound but no video. What is required to get the picture sent from my laptop to the TV? Thanks.

I use S-video out of my laptop to S-video into my TV. (Tube tv)

Go to display properties and clone the screen. Put the movie up to full screen and you are now watching a movie via your laptop on your tv.

Use a Y splitter out of the head phone jack to RCA and put the RCAs to your receiver.

I have the vga out. I need something to convert that to a tv connection (42 inch LCD, something cheap but HD is preferred). Is there a special type of cable that does the conversion or what do I need? Thanks.
