L7 12" Blew - Whats the deal?

dam this thread scares me cuz i plan on gettin L7. People keep tellin me they blow theirs
A lot of people blow a lot of subs. It's user error a lot of the time. L7 is decent sub. Just research it and don't get gain happy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

people can blow any woofer.

he was using it improperly and he broke it via neglect and not knowing what he was doing in the first place.

do it right if you know, learn if you dont, if you dont care, have somone else do it.

L7's are sweet and rock solid subs. its like saying "i dont wanna buy that car because people say they crash them into brick walls alot" just because idiots dont set their gain correctly, does not mean that the sub is not a quality piece of equipment.

You are scared because someone else doesn't know how to use their equipment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

ya the 2 people that blew em were pretty dumb about it. plus they didnt break it in at all, soon as it was in they just started to blare it and guess what happened. Im still definently gettin a L7 but unlike them ill be smart about it.

if most blow is because either they over power them, or pushing them past mechanical limits. It's great to add a ton of power to a sub, adjust the gains up and bass boost to max, but sounds good for a short while. But installing them, and powering them properly, they can last as well as any other driver made. But if you do either of those to any sub, expect damage. Most of the returns are for those reasons alone...and a note stating inside saying "well I only had 3000 watts to it and a 6 cu ft box"....

damage is to be expected....

comming from a kicker rep near the top of the ladder in the company, id say that he knows what the deal is.

kid was abusing the speaker, it broke. end of story //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Perhaps the gain was up a bit but I was not pushing this speaker even close to its limits. As I said, I got more sound out of my shitty 10" audiobahns running on a 200w RMs legacy amp. BTW this amp is 850w RMS and I have read that RF is usually rated just under what it actually pushes. What has me so upset is that I was trying to go easy on it and not play it too hard. Also, if you set the gain too low, the mids will be so loud it busts your eardrums and it will not bump....that was the issue. Next time, I will keep the gain down and be easy.

also, when you spend $400 on a sub setup, you shouldnt get something thats gonna just fry out if you turn the gain up a little too much. I should be able to bump the hell outta this thing and not have to baby it.

low power and more effecient drivers, different install...I bet when this system is done, you'll be amazed how loud(er) it is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No sub can handle mis-adjustments...from a Funky pup to a W7...installed wrong, bad results. If 'matched' I have seen many drivers, other than these, last for years....

OK well when I get my new sub, hopefully you guys can help me configure in such a way so that it performs well without smoking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

850 watts should be plenty to move an L7 12" with much ease if done right. i mean i had a MA audio rated at 750@2ohm powering my L7 15" and i managed to squeeze a 146 on a TL out of her so you should get some bump;).
