L3 vs L7 Big Difference?

Even if its the factory ported box its probably to small and definitely tuned to high. A custom built ported box is always the best thing you can do.

I'm running the 12" in a ported enclosure, with 2.0 cubes each. Pretty large box, trying to cut down on space and achieve some low bass. It's made out of 1" mdf, with proper port specs. Sounds good, you just can't really replicate a sound of a 15 with 12's.

That is wher you are wrong... It's all in the box... I bet some shop told you it was "built to specs" am I right?

Maybe u did not read OG post sealed box.. Would you say an l7 is made to be run sealed?? I did not think so.. So anti nothing I am against putting the wrong sub in a setup period. The Fi Q will just **** an l7 in a sealed box that's a fact. Not trying to be prickish sounding got bad news about my doors today so kinda pissed.
he said he thinks he might.. It appears he is new to this so if he did do the l7 I would advise him to port it..

I dont have a problem with mainstream companies, my problem with them stems the ridiculous prices they charge. I highly value the "bang for your buck" and the mainstream companies usually don't cut it in that selling feature.
The reason other companies keep prices low is because they keep it to internet sales and have little overhead.. what that also means is that its almost impossible to hear any before you buy.. especially FI.. Since I got into this 6+ yrs ago until now I have never meet anyone who owned or even heard of FI outside of events and this site.. even then I have only heard btls.. 18" in my old car and other peoples..

another thing.. when you order an FI sub it takes like 2-3 weeks or even longer sometimes.. A kicker you can pick up at any bestbuy.. minus the soloX.. Guess what if you have an issue you bring it back to where you bought it.. You don't have to try to deal with them over emails and phone calls.. So you are buying customer service really.. that and the stores markup so they make money off of them.

The L7 is equivalent to two motor strength steps up. There is a huge difference in power handling and cone control. There is a decent amount of efficiency difference (the CVR motors are not efficient, the L7 motors are). You will notice an output difference on anything over 300w. You will notice a longevity difference on anything over 500w

He's right. A 12 can sound just like a 15, even louder in certain setups (mostly where adequate space is an issue). I'm not going through all the posts to see what kind of 12 you are running, but if it's square 2cu is actually really small for them. You'd honestly see better output with a 10, and could even drop lower if tuned properly. If you ended up running something aside from Kicker, I can't help you out. Some brands of subs do like small boxes, however, and a 12 or 15 of said brands would do wonders on a 2cu box with correct power and tuning.

Yes l7 8 won sq comp yet look at the smack everyone talks about. I like the way mine sound sealed and have recieved many comments on how far they can b heard for a sealed setup. Ill admit there are better but beating this sub amp combo for $175 is prettu hard to do.

Don't come in here talking that ish about Kicker. They are TRASH.

/sarcasm off

That's great.. But he is not getting a sub amp comdo for 175 he is getting single L7 for 330 bucks and at that price and going sealed is your thing then there is soooooo much better options out there. Sry to chap some azz but its reality.

IMO, since the OP said he doenst really care to get louder, just wants to get lower, the box should be the first thing he looks at. Not just buy another sub cuz thats a Kicker!

I'd suggest you get a real custom box built tuned low. maybe 30-33hz with proper airspace and then go from there. Even if you do go with different subs you'll still need a custom box anyway.

You can make an 8" sub replicate the sound of a 15" man. It all has to do with the box it goes into. Chances are you box is not build to proper specs, and the port is tuned terribly. If you got the design specs from whoever built your box, we got a handful of people that could verify if it's a good design. But it sounds like for what you're looking for, a new box design will solve it.
