kx600.1......8 guage good enough?

when he first got it and we hooked it up it was making a whistling sound through the subs....and the amp itself was making a whistling sound also. When it was whistling there was no bass...but eventually the whistle would go away and the bass would start.

After about 3 days we couldn't get it to do anything but whistle so we sent it to kicker to get it fixed.

They said it had bad sodder and some bad capacitors. When we got it back we hooked it up and it worked just fine. No whistle everything seemed fine. It worked until later that night when the bass stopped hitting. No fuses were blown...amps powerlight was still on. We hooked it up to some different subs to make sure it wasn't the subs but they wouldn't either so we knew it had to be the amp. So we figured it had to either be the speaker output or the RCA input.

So we called kicker today and they said we needed to run 4 guage to it. Now I know that would be best and that is what is recommended but I just dont see 8 guage doing that to such a small amp.

I had an 8g kit for my amp and it pushes ~450 watts.

I upgraded to 4g wire (ground and batt back) and had a noticeable gain in loudness, less dimming, and for some reason the amp stopped overheating after 15-20 mins, to about 45-60.

Noted-I do have a horrible sony at the moment =[
