I have to say I am with flip on this one. No amount of protection is worth my liberty. I really don't understand how anyone could believe otherwise, it amazes me.

Because their parents failed to teach them self-sufficiency. They are reliant on something from birth to death. So, when parents no longer provide the tits, the government is glad to step in.

If they conduct the investigation according to public statute, there is no problem. If they kick in my door on a whim, that's the problem.
Let's get this straight, I have no issue with the police as long as the perform investigative activities within the perscribed guidelines. In this instance, the police did not follow the rules.

No profession operates at 100%, shit happens, especially when you purposely try to recreate a grow situation without the pot as this group did.

Sometimes the police screw up and thats where your rights and the courts come in. Hippy stoners think its a bid deal as well.

I believe they baited the police to expose the errors in that particular unit's performance. The question is, is this behavior systemic in all police units? Obviously, the producers of the television program such lax standards is widespread.

There is quite a difference between "shit happens" and systematic errors. If this was a case of random chance, sure mark it up to "shit happens". But if this error is repeated, is it then a case of "shit happens"?

I still say shit happens. If shit happens too often, bad seeds will be weeded out. I could still give two shits as I don't do anything that mimicks suspicious criminal activity. If I un-knowingly do and get called on it, I learn something new. Until then all the pot, tomato, and christmas tree growers can keep getting investigated for all I care.

I grow basil indoors and have been seriously considering a timed grow lamp setup, naturally I'd want to go with HID at minimum if not the sodium lights because of their increased efficiency.

Should I deserve to have my house broken into and illegally searched, just because I like fresh pizza sauce?

If they have reasonable suspicion and follow they law because they don't know that you like fresh pizza sauce then they should investigate. If they don't they should keep digging. If they illegally search the courts will deal with that or you will get a fat settlement.

If they have reasonable suspicion of illegal activity I still believe that. I also believe that if your going to fake a pot grow scenario strictly for a reality tv show, there is a good chance you will lure the cops if thats what your end goal is.

But kicking in doors is not following proper procedure. I am not sure which you are advocating...kicking in doors based on suspicion or following proper procedures?

I am advocating that you can't expect any profession including cops to operate 100%. I advocate reasonable suspicion for a search, but there will be fukups and there are methods for those to be delt with. I don't know the scale of the problem, but in my circle of friends/family/life/acquaintances it doesn't appear to be an issue so I don't really care.

Also just as cops shouldn't rely on a "hunch" to kick in a door, reality TV shows shouldn't rely on a "hunch" to say they were illegally searched:
