I just recently pruchased a pair of konaki 12 subs for my spl car. I have to say that they are not bad for the money. I did serveral tests with them yielding pretty shocking results!! After reading a few other posts about these subs, I first applied a few layers of epoxy around the spider joint to keep it from seperating. After letting it sit overnight, I started testing...........................................................
The first test was playing music in a box tuned at 40hz using my xx cyclops amp. I played it at a pretty high volume for about a 1/2 hour with no problems. I used 2-12" konaki's wired at 1 ohm.
The second test I did was a wall socket test using 1 sub wired at 1/2 ohm. I let it play for about 20 seconds free-air, and it took it with no problem. It was a 120 volts on a 15 amp breaker.
The third test was in my spl box in my crx. Using two deka truck batteries, stock alternator, car running, and my xx cyclops amp wired at 1/4 ohm(2-12"konaki's), I was able to hit a 151.3.
The last test was using my same amp wired at 1/4 ohm with 1 turbo start battery, I was able to hit a 152.1!!
All of my tests were done using a TL meter. I measured the output power of my xx cyclops on the 16volt burp, and it was putting out about 3500 watts. My voltage started at about 17.1 and dropped during the burp to 12.8 volts.
Over all Konaki made a pretty decent competition sub for the money. I think it's definatley a good sub for someone that wants to start competing but doesn't have $1000.00 to invest in a sub like dd or some of the other big time companies out there. I'm going to try 1 xx cyclops on each sub to see if they will take it, and see what kind of number I can hit. I think they will take it!!
