Kind of disappointed...

I have 2 12" Type-R's in a 5cube 32hz ported box in my SUV. The sound of the bass is very......rattly. When a low bass hits, it's kind of like just a loud vibration and not very clear. I would rather have a deep, clear thud to the chest. Would a sealed enclosure be better? Can someone recommend some dimensions?

Also, on some songs the bass rolls gradually from high to low, (such as Dr. Dre's Big Ego's), and the high bass comes in at the front speakers, kind of distorted, then goes back to the subs. It sounds really messy and unclear....maybe I just need to tune my amps better? Maybe I wired something wrong? If I take it into a local shop will they know what to do to make it perform at its best?

Do you have any sound deadener in the vehicle, that can make a world of difference to the way it will sound. Also maybe try adding some polyfill to the box, that can change the sound quite a bit also.

Thanks, I'll consider that. Also, in a open trunk SUV, is it better to face the subs towards the back (which will shake the trunk door), straight up, or towards the front against the back seats?

bigger at least. that is assuming you have at least 1000 watts going to the R's.

I have the HiFonics 1206D @ 1 ohm going to the two subs. And I am very close to East Moline.

Sounds like you have a decent amp and subs, but you definatley need to upgrade your wiring. Then have someone tweak and tune on your settings.
