Kina dissatisfied... 3 12" JL 12W6's

I finally got my 3 12" W6v1's in my Ranger. They are in a downfiring sealed box behind the seats, each sub getting about 230rms apiece. The JL's have plenty of kick, but are... Not as good as I thought they'd be. There is plenty of SPL and clarity, flat and uncolored freq response... but the subs are barely working most of the time, even at peak listening tuned volumes.

When they are unleashed with no consideration of SQ (taking off the -12db attenuation switch for instance) they punish the inside of my truck so badly that the rattles are unbearable. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Within minutes my ears are begging for a stop to the madness. But, all in all it doesn't seem that loud to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I am not impressed with the low low end response, I'm used to ported 15's that absolutely dominate the super lows, and the 12's handle it but not as well as I'd hoped.

Plus, the box takes up alot of room... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Make up your mind.

You said they have plenty of kick, SPL, clarity, and have a flat frequency response. You said that they punish the inside of your car and your ears beg for it to stop. But then you say they aren't that loud? Which is it?

I don't think it is fair to compare 12s in a downfiring sealed enclosure to 15s in a ported enclosure. Not even close. Put those subs in a ported box, or at least flip that box over so the subs face the rear or something. Try it a few different ways.

And by all means, throw more power at them if you can.

The space the box takes up doesn't allow another position. Upfiring maybe. THere is no room for a ported box unless I begin to alter the interior of the truck.

More power might help, and maybe slipping some polyfill in the enclosure?

Where is your lowpass set at?

I agree the power you're running is on the low side, but with 3 12's it should be enough. And you say when it does hit, it hits hard. It leads me to beleive that the crossover is set very low and only kicking out the low notes when the songs call for it.

Check your lowpass setting.

They're ORIGINAL W6s people. They niether want nor need the power of the newer ones. Maybe try setting the attenuation somewhere less than -12dB would give you something more akin to what you're looking for, but once again I have to say it, you're getting upset that an SQ woofer isn't giving you the SPL that you want. Why don't you complain about a Vette's lack of offroad prowess while you're at it. Both arguments would have the same level of relevance.

You also need to turn that box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif .....how do you wanna hear them?

Compared to a 15 ported......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I've heard many of those trios and they all pound pretty good from 200-400 watts each.
