just bought a zx2500 and i am wondering if i can use a power distribution block that goes 1 guage off my main battery and splits to 4 guage that would go to both my amps??? on kickers site it shows them going straight to it with 1 guage just wondering if it would be ok to split it or if i just should run 2 seperate 1 guage power cables???

also do i need to, or should i hook it up to both my batteries???

any info is greatly appreciated...

thanks

A 2500 watt amp will draw close to 200 amps at full power, assuming 90% efficiency. 4 gauge wire isn't rated for current that high. Now granted, it won't be pulling the full 200 watts all of the time. I think you need to use the 1/0 wire to the amp as recommended in the Kicker manual.

You can still use a distro block. Get one that has 1/0 as the input (or will allow a ring terminal), and has a 1/0 out for your sub amp, and a 4 gauge out for your other amp. Or one with two 1/0 outputs and a little adapter thingie that lets use 4 gauge wire. As long as the combined current draw between the two amps doesn't exceed the rating of the 1/0 wire to the battery, you're fine.

I'd definately go bigger..........I always look at it like you have a garden hose and a fire hose................which one will flow more water?

Wire is the same thing..........thicker wire will be much more efficient, and will give you more output from the amp.

minimum 1/0 with a chasis ground. that amp will heat up if you use 4awg and run it hard.

On me old kx 2500.1 (same ****ing amp) i had dual 1/0 runs for power and grounds (chasis ground) and it helped alot (especially since my electrical wasnt very beefy either).

trust us man, you need at LEAST a run of dedicated 1/0 for that amp alone.
