Kicker ZX1000.1 @ .5 ohms?

I wired up my sub parallel and thought I would get 1000W. The sound produced was incredible, it had to be louder than 1000W! I then suddenly remembered that my sub is dual 1 ohm and wiring it parallel gives it a .5 ohm load.

Since the ZX is efficient it handles it until it went in protect mode. (still works like a champ!)

So, my question is does anyone know the watts a ZX1000.1 produces at .5 ohm?

i thought those weren't supposed to be dropped below 2 ohms?

they are 1 ohm stable

and the wiring would suggest .5 ohm. it was definitely LOUD. and it works fine now at 2 ohms (since i series wired it).

You've stressed the load resistor in it so now no matter what it will give way and shoot into protect during heavy bass notes eventhough you wired it to 2ohms.

Also at .5ohm you were probably seeing roughly 1000watts after imp rise. Maybe less depending how low your volts dropped.

hmmm. i see, but i've run the amp on my apocalypse at 2 ohms (which is 1000W) and it was no where as loud as the .5 ohm

ZX is 2ohms

KX is 1ohm

i wouldnt even run a new ZX amp at 1ohm... nevertheless .5ohms, should be able to chargrill a steak

its not magic, wire it in series and call it a day

i understand all that. I am running it series now. but we are straying away from the OP. I like the advice but i just want to know if anyone knows what it might have been doing watt wise at .5

ZX is 2ohms
KX is 1ohm

Obviously, you were at a higher ohm load therefore less power. Also different enclosure too.

A power supply will produce so much before clipping. I want to say ~1kW after voltage drop and impedance rise. Earlier you were getting less than 1kW.

No, the higher the impedance the less power. Also need to factor in voltage drop. Music is dynamic so you will hardly ever see full power out of your amp.

Gotcha man. I was just confused because kicker boast 1000W @ 2 AND 1 ohms. I figured it would produce more like power like other amps that can handle .5ohms. learn something new everyday.
