Kicker warrenty policy? =\

doesnt matter really...this is user error and it was the user who indirectly blew his own shit up...

so there is really no one to blame but himself..

regardless of any malfunction of a remote start or whatever...

I'm not blaming kicker.. It is by NO means there fault in any way shape or form.

But it's not directly 'our' fault for blowing the sub either.. It was a malfunction in the remote start that caused it..

my 2 cents..

I'm not asking for a hand out, I'm asking what I need to do. And obviously trying to avoid buying another brand new sub again..

It's not like we fried his sub because we chose to overpower it for a hour. His remote start started his car at a random time and caused his sub to fry.

You say it like he meant to fry it or somthing, or he accidentally fried he.. He wouldn't run it at full tilt for that long, he most likely wouldn't have fried it for years to come.. It is directly linked toe the fact his remote start failed..

What if his car was inside the garage, and his grandmother was sleeping, and his car started and the fumes killed his grandma.. Would you still blame him for not knowing the remote start was gonna go out and not being able to see the future and know he should have disconnected his car battery before leaving for work?

ya it just a shitty situation i guess. call kicker and see what they say. also where did you buy the sub?
bought the sub off ebay

Never ever leave your car stereo set to full volume when the car is turned off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif. Shop error //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/violent.gif.ccf64f7a34b20886d220db2fbff36f3b.gif on the remote start malfunction.

The shop is at fault for the subwoofer in the same way it would be at fault if the car started and killed somebody, or the car blew up, etc. They are responsible for the damage their faulty install caused.

Shops negligence. Just like when you get over served at a bar then go crash. Even though it wasn't the bar that ran the car through a crowd of school kids they are negligent and get in trouble.

i don't think you get a warrant if you bought off ebay???

I'm not really sure

I was reading hte kicker policy, and it said that if you buy from an authorized dealer you get a year warrenty, but if you purchase from a non authorized dealer you get 3 months

Trying to locate my email from ebay, it was about a month ago I ordered everything

IMO thats a bad reference

A better reference would be the bar serving you all night, then saying "man your too drunk, you better get home, let me assist you to your car and start it for you since you can't walk"

lol

i blew up an L5 on a zx1500.1 in like 7 mins. called kicker, asked if they reconed em because i fried it...they told me to send it in and i got a brand new one..

and i told them i fried it on too much power.

Not to start anything but, in order for that sub to be getting 1600w full tilt he would have had to been playing a tone or something, music is very dynamic, so unless it was on a repeat of Young jeezy at ABOVE listening volume then i could see this happening, or you turned the gain on that hifonics way past 1600w.

either way it doesnt matter, im sure kicker will take care of it for you...

Those remote starts are tricky... My friends dads explorer would RANDOMLY start, one time it was on the whole time he was at work, 8 hrs. And sometimes he would wake up and notice that it was running at 6 am..

I blew an l7 on a zx1500.1 during break-in. Sent it in, got a free one. The one i sent in was 06 model, they sent me 08 free :) The 08 sub broke in fine and sounded great... for about 10 mintues. Blew it again. Now kicker won't take it back. It's a nice door stopper for the garage now.

Either way, it's not Kicker's issue, IMO. Regardless of why it happened, it wasn't a manufacturer defect, so they shouldn't HAVE to cover it unless they want to out of pity. This should be between the owner of the car and the shop. If they don't help out, then IMO, they have crappy customer service. It happens, though.

Is it a DEI remote start, or another remote start that has a timer start feature?

I'd wager he accidentally put the brain into timer mode, which will start car ever 3 hours ( default setting on DEI )

Its a common problem and apparently easy to do.

I've never heard of a remote start just deciding it wanted to start by itself.

Even if the remote start DID malfunction, the dealer is not at fault for it, the manufacturer is. Don't even waste your time talking to them about it, they'll laugh in your face. (your friends face that is.)

Obviously you are doing something wrong........
