Don't read hte bottom unless you want to hear how it happened.. Basically my friends solo baric took 1600rms for over a hour straight frying it.. He has only had the sub a week.. I know its not a manufacturing defect, its simply too much power for too long cooked the coils and fried them..
What should we tell kicker? What can we do? Are we going to have to pay full price for a recone? Can we get a discount since the sub is so new?
My friend got screwed.. Just spent over $1500 on alarm + stereo install I did for him (I did all the stereo equipment, he paid a shop to install an alarm/remote start)
Kicker solo baric 15" L7 with a hifonics brutus 1600w matched to it, in 4.5cubes at 30hz.. (same setup I personally run)
Well his luck went bad when.. His remote start failed... Last time he parked his car he had the stereo turned up to full volume.. He went to work in his OTHER car, and left this one at home..
His remote start somehow failed and started his car.. Kicking his sub to full 1600ish rms of power, and running it like that for over a hour, or until it fried..
His mother called him time after time but he couldn't answer cause he was at work.. By the time he got home his car was on for over a hour, it was full of smoke, and he could not turn the car off tell he poped the hood (which tripped the remote starts sensor)...
The place that installed it was closed cause its too late, hes gonna call tomorrow and see what they are going to do about it (certainly either getting his money back on the remote start or having a new one installed) and going to TRY and get them to pay for the sub but I doubt they will..
It's just crazy to think, I could have been the one who installed the remote start, and I guarantee he would blame me for whatever happened.. Makes me never want to install a remote start for someone for risk of me having to pay out of pocket for repairs!
