is there any major difference between the older model l7 solobarics (the ones with the black cone) and the newer models? besides power handling obviously.

One of my friends switched his old 12" black cone for the new model. Same box, same amp, same voice coil config. etc. Anyway the new one is just a little louder to the ear, but both sound about the same in SQ.

what order did they come out in? i got the 02S12L7 the silver one, the newest one is the chrome one right and the oldest one is the all black one?

yes, gen 2000/2001 was black, 2002/2003 light silver, 2004/2005 shiney, 2006................................

As years come and go , they alwayz update the exiosting subwoofers, like the new type r's wang compared to the old ones, they change a bunch of stuff on the L7's
