Kicker or Memphis

I have 2 RE Audio RE8 subs that need to be powered

I can get a Memphis 500 watt amp from a local pawn shop, dont know exactly which model, but my friend that works there said it was 1 ohm stable.

I can also get a Kicker ZX350.2 from a local car audio shop

Can the RE's handle 500 watts from the Memphis when they are wired to 1ohm.

or should I get the Kicker and keep them near the recommended wattage of 175watts each(350 total)

a few things

I know Kicker amps usually do a little over what they are rated, so no big deal there

I can get the Memphis amp for $180, dont know what the Kicker will cost yet, but they go anywhere from $115-$220 on the internet...jeez what a difference.

I'm thinking I should get the Memphis, and just keep the gain down a bit.

I did have a PG Xenon 400.1 giving them 425watts at one point, but it crapped out on me, so I know the RE's will take a bit over their recommended wattage.

ok, enough rambling I suppose, so Opinions plz

do the memphis. set the gains properly and imp rise will probably work in your favor. should be just fine. make sure the amp ventilation isnt constrained.

Rofl, of course i should expect that answer from "MemphisMan", and I suppose if theres someone named KickerDude, he will say kicker....I'll wait for more answers, but I am leaning toward the Memphis anyway....I Love more power.

wow, some quick answers there,IF its the one that is 2ohm stable, not 1 ohm, then it wont work, cause the subs can be wired to either 4ohms or 1ohm....guess I'll have to check with my friend and see.

if its the PR, the only kind that will work for your subs then just buy it new for 180..... I would take the PR 500.1 over the kicker 350.2 anyday

u could still run the mclass at 1 ohm. just start with the gain lowwwwww
IMO that would be pointless.... Putting that strain on the amp isnt good for it, and its not like he would be begging for power. If it is the MClass then, just buy the PR series new.... or maybe it will be the ST500.1 which is stable at 1 ohm

i said pawn shop, but its a combination pawn shop and car audio, so it may be new...I would really rather buy locally and not have to wait than buy over the internet....we'll see what tomorrow brings

NEW NEWS

It is the Power Reference 500.1 got it for $150 even...the guy hooked it up in store, and it works fine....bought some wire to rewire the subs to 1ohm...should have everything hooked up tonight...WOOT!
