Kicker L7

I recently bought a Kicker S12L7 and I was planning on building a pretty big sealed box for it that is 3-5 cu. ft. I was flipping through the owner's manual last night and it mentioned that the maximum sealed enclosure space for the 12" L7 is 2 cu. ft. and NOT to exceed this amount of space.

This sounds strange to me because I remember going to an audio shop one day and seeing a truck with 6 10s hit like 150. Then I noticed one of the employees with a hatchback Ford Escort hit almost 150 with 2 12 Kicker Comps in a HUGE sealed box that filled up his hatch area. That box had to be at least 7-8 cu. ft. I assume his system was that loud because of the extra space in the box.

So why does Kicker recommend no more than 2 cu. ft. per sub?

You obviously have the room for a ported box if you have room for 3-5cubes sealed. I would say you would be better off using that space for a ported box. I had mine in 2.15 tuned to 32 hz and it was ok, but needed a bigger box for sure...I think somewhere around 2.5 @ 34-36 would be nice. (although I never tried it)

Btw, how much power are you planing on running?

If SQ is your main concern, you might want to rethink your sub choice. I've read that L7's can have great SQ, but I think there are other drivers that will work better for your application.

hahaha NO:laugh:

i have mine in a 2.5 ported tuned at 35Hz. id say go with that but tune a bit higher, such as 38Hz. thats what the kicker tech told me. its a street beater sub. i really like mine, id buy another but SQ wasnt what i was shooting for. id say go sealed. 2 - 2.5 cubes.

If SQ is ur preference thn y in da world would you get an L7 I have 2 10" L7s and SQ is not in the Picture the only way 2 go with that sub is ported buddy... if u want SQ look into the Fi Q very nice sub or if you want loud a decent SQ mabey get an Alpine Type R...
