I recently bought a Kicker S12L7 and I was planning on building a pretty big sealed box for it that is 3-5 cu. ft. I was flipping through the owner's manual last night and it mentioned that the maximum sealed enclosure space for the 12" L7 is 2 cu. ft. and NOT to exceed this amount of space.
This sounds strange to me because I remember going to an audio shop one day and seeing a truck with 6 10s hit like 150. Then I noticed one of the employees with a hatchback Ford Escort hit almost 150 with 2 12 Kicker Comps in a HUGE sealed box that filled up his hatch area. That box had to be at least 7-8 cu. ft. I assume his system was that loud because of the extra space in the box.
So why does Kicker recommend no more than 2 cu. ft. per sub?
