how many shops have you taken your car to?i dunno if this was previously suggested or not but taking it to a few different stores would be good.i know you took it to one shop and they said ur HU was messed up or soemthing.

geez this thread is still going on. By this time u couldve just ripped out ur wires and re-did everything 20 times.
he said he has a few times. i told him to try a few other shops b/c something he is doing is wrong or something in there is wrong. 700rms to a L7 12" is plenty to get it moving and it should be loud.

for sure i heard just 1 10" L7 in a sealed box and it pounded

taken it to al & ed's a few times.. rewired everything 3-4 times.. rewired individual wires at least 2 times each.. replaced RCAs twice (once with same RCA, cuz my wiring kit came with two.. then figured both RCAs might be cheap stuff so got a new one.. still no difference).. taken it to good guys and had the installation tech check it out.. he said even IF stuff was a little messed up, it's amazingly quiet... dunno...

hmmmm wait a sec have u tried another amp on ur sub? Maybe the sub is blown?

When you say it is not very loud from a short distance, do you mean you cant hardly hear it bump outside the car? But What does it sound like wile sitting in the driver seat with trunk and doors closed? Maybe it is your car. When I first put a system in the truck I own now I just knew it would be loud because I got nice subs and a nice amp with plenty of power and current for it and built box to specs, But it wasnet half as loud as I expected although it still sounded good and acurate. i eventually the subs in my sisters car with half the wattage and preamp and it bumped like a mofo. The system just didn't like the acoustics of my ride.

my other thought not to be a dick but you sure you got the RCA's to the sub output? i mean hey it's a long shot but it could be your simple mistake. i've never tweeked with too many alpines and not that one at all so maybe they are labeled maybe not i'm not sure. maybe check that??

i agree, checking everything and anything helps, i bet its a stupid mistake if not i bet the sub is blown....there really isnt anything else possible. This thread is old **** im really curious to see what the hell is wrong with ur **** setup.

as i said.. i've tested the sub in my friend's car.. it works fine.. and yes.. i've hooked up his friend's amp and sub in my car.. same eerie quietness..

yes the RCAs are labled and i've got them hooked up to the sub.. the headunit doesn't detect sub-w and allow increase in subwoofer volume otherwise..

i've even tested the sub sitting outside on the curb while wired to his mustang.. definitely bumped.. dunno..

could a pinched remote wire lead to less bass? wouldn't it put the amp into protect mode before it even turned on properly? gonna check it again.. probably run it outside the car to ensure no pinching..

If you had a bad and/or pinched remote wire then your amp and sub would either be dead or cut in and out, which isnt the problem described. As I ask again, are you complaining about the perfomance of the sub inside the car or outside the car? Just because a certain system set up sounds loud in one vehicle does not mean the same sytem set up will sound loud in another. Different vehicles have different acoustics. And some vehicles can play hell trying to get the expected db out of it between the box design, sub position, angleing, tuning and eq settings while other cars just sound good with little effort. And then you have the vehicles that are very well built to be quit while you are driving, which keeps all the road noise out and all the high quality music in.

i understand performance may not be the same in every ride... but it's definitely not even CLOSE to decent in my car... L7s aren't quiet subs... even in the crappiest of craptacular cars, it should give a little thump... right now it sounds like stock....

called best buys... they want to charge me $100 for reinstallation of everything... and $60/hr for troubleshooting

you said u ran it from ur car to outside it and it worked?or you wired it from ur friends car to outside?
