Kicker L7 Repair Log

kicker subs = garbagenext you'll be dealing with thier bad solder joints FTL

Nice job on the repair tho...
i would never call them garbage

these subs are 3 years old and are pounded with more then 1500 watt rms every day in a 10 cube ported box with 2 kicker 1500.1 amps. kicker makes a great product. most of the problems are user error. they are far from garbage

^ I guess you haven't seen as many dicked up CVRs L5s & L7s (that don't have burned coils) as I have....

and what do most people do with them at that point ? throw them in the trash...

Hence, kicker subs = garbage

thats one thing that made me not understand what was wrong with the sub. the coils and allignment looked perfect. that was when i started to look for other causes. guess i have just been lucky

well i made my new mounting bolts of the sub and i am very happy with it. everything clamps down on the surround making a MUCH tighter clamp on the surround. even without glue there is no way to remove the surround now with out ripping it out. i will put some pics of the clamps this afternoon. works perfect and has the added bonus of looking cool to lol

someone asked me for a pics of the way i made the bolts pull down on the black retaining ring. in sort i just took some long oval washers and made it so the bolt can not go into the hole. now it sits on top of the rim and pulls down as tight as i want. I used T nuts on the bottom so i dont have to worry about striping the holes out. super simple but here is the pic.

you my freind are the definition of fail

Hey i just finished sanding everything down and i got the clamps ready. May I ask what kind of rubber cement did you use? The closest glue i could find was Elmer's rubber cement or gel epoxy, but im afraid they wont bond as good or be too stiff. Thank you

Old thread is old.

I just used Shoe Goo when I repaired one of my 15" L7s, that stuff is pretty strong, but requires DAYS to properly dry.

Edit: Forgot to specify that I had to rewind the voice coil on it, and was not due to the surround, though I did have to follow this process mentioned above. I did have to cut the spider and glue the edges together to the plastic ring as well. That glue was a PITA to get off.

i used gorrila glue. they have a flexable rubber like glue. dont use the "standard" verison. it expands to much

only reason i didnt get l7s was because i heard they were tuff on the corners so i went with cvx, which have the same mechanicle drive as the l7, and IMO im glad id di that cuz they sound better and also seem to hit harder

i do like the sound of round ones better but in equal installations they can not hit harder. the L7 will win in that area over the round every time.
