Kicker l7 enclosure

okay so i was going to sell this but i decided to see how a new box will improve this sub. It is an 08 12" kicker l7 running on a Sundown Saz-2000D

So far i have an idea of the size of box i want to build. I want something that will fill out the space between my wheel wells in my wagon. 38~39 inches is the distance between the wells. So a box with the dimensions 38X16X12 is what i came up with. I think having the speaker facing the ceiling and the port facing the rear of the car works best for my application.

I am using the specs from kickers manual for the port size. 13.25X3 and 14 inches deep.

Will all of this make a box worth building?

Thanks for the Help!

1. Jesus, you're running that 12" L7 on more than I'm running my Solo Xs!

2. Looks like roughly 4.2 cu. before displacement and 40 sq. in of port. Sounds like it should get loud, heck my old 10s got loud off 1500W and only 1.75 cu. (under seat box) with 16 sq. in of port.

3. I would still be careful with that 2000, kind of dirty power to be running way more than RMS on an L7 motor in a big box setup. Be careful with it, don't squarewave or drop below port and you should really enjoy the diff. this box will make.

that is going to be tuned very high
L7's have always seemed to love 42-48hz range. These things will pound on songs like Ludacris-"Put Your Money" "Intro(Red Light District), T.I. "24s" Three 6-"Slob on my Knob"

They won't like much Decaf if tuned to 38~42

I forgot to mention that this is my first box building experience so my calculations and demensions are bound to be faulty. The type of music this is going to be playing are Dubstep rock and some hip-hop

actually, you should go bigger. that box is 3.2 including port disoplacement. if you are going to stick to spec (3.25@41hz) then go deeper. if you want to stick with your dimensions, then tune it to 38-40hz, depending on what you have room for (L-port needed) and remember to leave 3-4" from the end of the port, to the next wall. another thing- gen2 L-series are less forgiving when droping bottom, so be prepared to use a subsonic, if nescicary. i actually crunched a coil former on a brand new 10" on the verry first note it ever played, because i forgot to check the volume, lol....... what is "dubstep"?

Like I said I am a novice at box building so I don't know alot of this stuff. For example I don't know how to tune a box or what dimensions to make an L port. Could you help me out or recommend a site with this information..... and Dubstep is like drum and bass but different its awesome with a nice system. =)

I have built and installed many square subs form L5s to soloXs. I have never been impressed with their ability to do much other then be in a fart box, so you are correct. However, the OP will not be happy with an enclosure tuned that high.

build the box a little bigger and tune it lower. 41hz and dub to not go together, you will either bottom the sub out frequently or you will have to set the sub sonic so high youll kill some of the bass in the dub.

that said. you could probably do a lot more selling that sub and getting something that will actually play well.

ah, i listen to a lot of electronica and dance at times, but never knew exactly what dub-step was..... there is like 100 sub-categories, lol. can you recomend good names? i exhaust way too much time trying to find good music. anywho- back to the task at hand- i really wouldn't go below 36hz, or you will start loosing off the top. the first enclosure i did was 2-15's back in 2000-'01 and it was 6cu per @ 29, or 30hz(hard to remember, and i lost my notes) and it dropped like a brick @80hz+ most recent was a l5-10 @41, that did get real loud and low, but needed a sub-sonic, as mentioned. btw, all those songs that wickedwitt mentioned aren't really deep bass songs. so, did you decide if you can give up a little more room for a larger enclosure?

I'd like to see some DB Roll off for these subs at 42-48. I bet it's horrible... or not.

Ok then, any suggestions on what i should replace this sub with? I will be running it on a SAZ-2000D and have a space in my Taurus wagon with the dimensions of 38X20X20 for the box.
