I'm getting some mixed opinions about doing this however I currently have a 12" Kicker Comp rated at 150w RMS with my 200w RMS amp which isn't too bad however the amp is more capable than the driver. I have at times pushed the driver more than what its capable of doing which is a bad thing in the long run.
The CompVr is a similar design as the Comp however Dual Voice coil vs Single, 86.9db vs 88.3db Sensitivity. Id also gander to say that Kicker team has stressed both drivers using the same test methods to determine their ratings.
In my opinion the CompVR at 200w being 86.9db would sound around the same as the Comp when 150w 88.3db is being pushed to it .
I know I'll have more headroom to work with in terms of the CompVR at 400w RMS if I were to get a better amp in the future. However I am happy with the loudness of the 200w for now. I just don't like pushing the driver to its limits.
So question is... am I assuming properly that I'll get roughly around the same overall Dba output from the 12" CompVr at 200w as I am currently getting with the 12" Comp at 150w?
