Kicker CompVR 12" Overheating?

Under powering clipping whatever you wanna call it. It will blow a sub
Not the same thing. Under powering is underpowering it. Clipping is when you send the sub a square sound wave signal. It clips the top of the signal off. Clipping can occur on an under power and an over powered system and actually has nothing to do with power. It has to do with matching your gains and tuning properly.

Clipping is not underpowering. Clipping raises the average continuous power that the sub sees. Notice how a sine wave has peaks and drops? Clipping is a square wave, so it doesn't have the drops. Thus, it raises the average amount of power that the sub sees. That's the most that I can dumb it down for ya. It's not like a 500 watt amp clips at 1000 watts. The sub just has less time to cool off.

This is why you can blow a sub with just about any amp if you clip it. It overheats the sub by allotting it less time to dispel heat
