Kicker CompVR 12" Overheating?

I got it hooked to my kicker ZX400.1 (2010 model). When I get it up to higher end heavy bass, I start smelling the subs hardware like its burning. The Amp isnt enough to blow the sub so what is it? IS there a way to fix this? I get a bad sore throat every time I smell it.

Prob from under powering. I imagine you have the amp gain at max. Your throwin clipped signal to the sub. Turn your gains down or buy a bigger amp. More subs get blown from under powering than overpowering them.

It's impossible to blow a sub by under powering it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Not possible to blow a sub from under powering.

He is clipping the sub. Gains need to be set right, bass boost needs to be off, and bass setting at the HU needs to be set to flat or 0.

Had a friend's cvt's in my van for a minute while I built his box.

His coils DID SMOKE and they did smell under power on some hard bass and/or test tones. Non-clipped, non bass boosted, clean power.

Not saying all kickers do, but I have first hand seen it happen.
