Most likely correct. If it's wires in series right now and producing a 4 ohm load, then your subs are likely Dual 2 ohm and will not be able to be wired to 2 ohm.
If you have a DMM, take it to the coils and measure the resistance on each set. The number you get should be very close to 2, or very close to 4. That will answer that question. Or dig up the box and find the exact model number of the sub. Basically, if it's currently wired in 4 ohm, you will NOT be able to wire to 2 ohms. Your only hope for wiring at 2 is to hope that it really isn't wired at 4 right now.took the sub out but am not sure if it's dual 2ohm or dual 4 ohm. It's wired in series though...how can you tell if its 2 or 4 ohm?
Audibly, that's not a huge difference, especially considering it's probably in a crappy box. There can very much be risk if he has Dual 2 ohms as he will likely fry the amp by wiring in parallel. I suggest we wait until the OP can confirm the resistance of his coils before saying he'll be fine wiring any other way.No risks and yeah it will push the actual 750wrms of the zx750.1. At 4ohms you were only getting 375wrms big difference
Did you buy this equipment from him as well? If they are D4, then yes, he wired them for maximum potential on that particular amp, but D2 subs or your subs with a different amp would've worked better in this situation.ok guys I'll look at the sub once again to see if it's marked or borrow a DMM. But daboyfrumdabx is probably right. If they are wired in series right now then they are probably dual 4 ohm. It was installed by a car audio installer from Washington Heights. I hope that he would've wired it for maximun performance....
