kick l7's question

hey guys i posted before about me getting my new setup, and im still going through the process. my friend who has 2 12" tc9s told me that the kicker subs arent going to hit the bass punches as good as the ones he has. he said the L7's (which is what im interested in) will blend the bass punches rather then pound like his do. im wondering if this in fact true about the kickers?? I also plan on getting 2 12" L7s for my 2000 honda civic coupe.

How does your friend have the TC-9's powered and what type (and specs of) enclosure?

Oh, and which L7's you want - the older (06 - 600w rms), or the new (07 - 750w rms)?

i was looking into mainly at the 7- 750 rms but would go with the 6-600 rms if the extra power is not really needed for a care like mine. i believe his hits 800 rms. im not exactly sure of the enclosure measurements but he built it and it doesnt look similiar to the built in 2 L7's i saw

The L7's will get loud, especially if they're in a larger ported box with some healthy power going to them (clean 900-1200w rms each).

Have you thought about the Fi BL 12's at all?

...21mm Xmax, 1000+ Wrms handling, and base price is only $259 shipped.

that is kind of true to a certain extent.. the L7's own all with rap songs that have a constant bass line, like "late night tip" but they can still pound/punch like woah

if you're lookin for subs that can give you that three 6 mafia type bass, then the L7s are for you... if you want something more for rock type stuff, id look into something else

does that make sense? lol maybe find someone or a shop with L7s and ask them to play some different types of music for you

Small boxes are louder on the meter.

there all rated the same amount?

also you should get something better than L7's they dont get that loud, you'll just wind up wanting to upgrade in a week or so

its alllllllllll install dependant, you're friends an idiot.

yes the tc9's are geared towards more sq than spl, but you cant make generalizations that broad without details of the install.

I'd perfer the TC's over the L7's myself...but that doesnt mean you can make a ported low tuned box that'll still sound good with the L7'S. in fact if you're lucky and his install is only half way decent, you can make the L7's sound better.

this whole "punchy rather than pound" is all crap man. If you make a well tuned and well braced box for those L7's they will sound good. typically when a sub sounds "muddy" or "choppy" or soudn bad in any ways, typically its because something in the install was ****ed up.

i've used a wide variety of subs/enclosures. and i've had 15's and 18's in massive and small boxes, and when the tuning and bracing is done right, these large single subs in big or small ported boxes hit just as "clean" or "punchy" as any 10 in a sealed box.

it's all install man

yea i see what you mean, its about the install. but yea i am mainly playing rap so with proper installment im sure it will pound just as loud as his.. or would you guys recommend another sub thats not any more expensive

I meant larger on the scale of Kicker recommended box size for that particular sub, as throwing them each in 1.0cf would not be so good.

kidnapster - what kind of amp do you have/want to get?
