Tommy, the springs have to be sitting on something
They are attached to the struts, and the struts are attached to both ends of the suspension. The springs on a strut car are NOTHING like the spring on a leaf spring or "open" spring setup.

Strut setup. Notice how the strut and coil spring are one piece.

Coil spring setup. Notice how the coil and shock are two separate pieces

1970s torandos had rear leaf suspensions with FWD
Thus why I said "off the top of my head" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I can't describe the rear suspension of all FWD cars.

I read somewhere that your car weighs 5000lbs now. I tihnk you said that. . .yes. So if we do the math approx. . . .

5000lbs - total weight

3596lbs- curb weight

2000lbs- towing capacity. . .

that means that your car audio + rims = 1404

YOU HAVE 596lbs to go!!! but minus you + passanger (lets say 160lbs each?) 320 lbs.

Conclusion: 276 lbs to go and you reach your towing capacity! what happens if he exceeds this?
Towing capacity is NOT vehicle capacity. Towing capacity is the amount of weight the car could handle if it was towing a trailer on a hitch.

If you look at my pic here, the spring sits on the bottom plate attached to the strut and then against a ring on the vehicle.

In the exploded veiw for his suspension, it was just not included.

If it is not there, it will just slide down and do nothing.

And they sell the coils seperatly so you can buy softer or stiffer ones for you to adjust the suspension. Which is what I told him to do last night. Measure the outside diameter of his springs, find some off a full size van or truck, and install them. More travel cheap. He also needs to replace the strut anyways since it is original with alot of miles and now ALOT of weight.

Yeah, they're original with 135,000 miles on 'em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I contacted a bunch of companies for sponsorships, this is all I received //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Hello Kenny,

Thanks for the pics, and the proposal. The car is looking great. Since

we design bolt on suspensions, we budget our sponsorship program off of

vehicle platform. I do not have a fitment for your car, so that leaves me

no budget for a sponsorship. I am very sorry that I cannot help you much in

the sponsorship realm. Have you thought about a stiffer spring in the rear?

I would need a little more information on your suspension before I can

suggest a platform to start from. Is your car strut equipped in the rear?

And:

Sorry we do not have any listings for your application.

And:

Dear Mr. Pollock,

I received your request for brake sponsorship of your '96 LHS this morning.

Typically, Wilwood does engage in custom brake build projects with

individual owners. As a manufacturer, we just do not have the staff or

budget to follow through with all of the individual measurements, parts and

pieces required for custom fitments. We do engineer brake kits for

production runs, but unfortunately, we have not had a lot of calls for

brakes to fit your vehicle where we would have plans to develop a kit in the

future.

My best suggestion would be to contact a chassis builder in your area to see

if they would be interested in mocking up a kit to fit your car.

Thanks for considering Wilwood products and best of luck with your project.

And:

Unfortunally we do not do any sponsorships, however we may be able to work

out a discount for you. Do you want to have a manual fill type system where

its not adjustable, or a complete incab control system?

I see what you are getting at.

But taking springs off a van or truck isn't going to work, especially when the springs aren't going to fit on his strut because they are too tall. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The best option I've see posted so far was the air strut that was posted a few pages ago.

hahaha you are below 10mpg. I get 20mpg with my truck and a butt load of audio equiptment.
hahaha i get about 22 mpg with my van and it weighs over 6000 pounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif without me in it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif i guess it sits so low and its kind of aerodynamic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Heh. At least you got something cool i would kill for a f250. My mountaineer v6 gets like 12-13-14 right in that range.

Talked to Scott, recone willl be here soon... talked to Shawn, I have to drive up there (5 hours) to get it done (15 minutes) lol.

Wanted to make it to a show on Sunday in Orlando, but I'm not gonna... to much stress and I want to get things working perfectly first.

I am however going to get involved with IASCA after talking to a guy in FL holding a lot their events here... I'd be in Advanced 2, and Bass Boxing sounds fun.

Try Reconing it yourself.

don't feel bad kenny my work van gets 8 MPG but i leave it running 6 hours a day

BTW 155+ is still possible w/ some tweeking of the port and dynamat IMO its possible

155 dB is possible... everyone said 150 wouldn't be possible out of my car and I'm well into the 150s... my sunroof is messed up and leaking, all my doors leak, my wall isn't sealed up, I don't know my peak frequency, I haven't played with my seat positioning, my one sub wasn't as strong as it should've been... theres plenty of room to grow.

Oh, and my amps aren't getting power at 14v, my alternator won't fully charge the batteries.
