Hey all-

I jsut hooked up my Sirius radio. Its directly connected into my Head unit via the auxilary input with a stereo to rca plug.

I am really surprised at the poor quality of the sound I am recieving- the main thing being the low level hum or static I am hearing.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a remedy?

where is the antenna mounted?

where is the cable run?

i'll be offline for about an hr, but i can help you work this out if you don't get it figured in the meantime

also, what brand you running?

I have a Sirius INV set. I put the antenna on the top of my car, in the rear centered. The cable runs down and around the window molding, then into the trunk. From there it is routed under panels and seats and whatnot to the front of my car.

I was looking online, and alot of people talk about the statuc they hear. It is almost always with people who are using the FM transmiter to give their head unit the signal though- whereas I am hooking it up directly to my deck. SUpposedly the best way acording to sirius.

Basically I think its just an issue with poor antenna recpetion of the satelite radio itself. Is their a booster or a static removing device (something similar to Behringer's Feedback destroyer?) that I can place in line to get clean sound?

the static isnt from the satalite signal it is something else, especially when you said the humming, that usually caused by a faulty ground somewhere.

is it possible in your mounting and routing the antenna wire that you sliced it so that part of the wire is exposed and touching metal? tha would cause it.

also to eliminate wher the noise is coming from take the aux jack from the satallite reciever and hook it up to something elsse besides your headunit, but leave the satalite hooked up into the car so the only thing you are changing is what is playing the signal, that way you can see if its somewhere in the antenna to the sat reciever or if it is fromt eh sat reciever to the headunit, if there is no noise when you hook it up to another source to play the sat radio then you know that the problem is somewhere int he wirring from the sat reciever and the headunit

So I am to understand that normal satelitte radio has no background hum or static? Its not really loud- its just kind of there, and you can hear it when music stops or switching channels. Is that normal perhaps?

Other then that- I will try using a different source to play the unit and see what happens.

I just got Sirius. I was amazed at the sound quality of it. I got the adapter for the direct connection into my p880 which also controls the tunning and stuff

I just added a Sirius tuner (Alp-Sir1) to my Alpine HU on Christmas and have ZERO static/humming. It sounded flat at first but after tweaking my HU EQ setting it sounds great! I’m thinking it’s either the Aux cable that connects the two or the Aux port on your Sirius unit. Does the same thing happen if you use an IPOD?
