Kenny's recone thread *pics*

I am SUCH a thread ***** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif I'm reconing my BTL myself (I think) so I'm cleaning it now while I wait for the recone from Scott @ Fi. If I did anything wrong, let me know. I'm just trying to help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Step 1

Take a before picture. Here is my BTL pre-destruction. 18" dual one, every option. The motor is machined to only fit the dual 1 recone, so I cannot recone to a dual 2.

Step 2

Dig in! I used a standard kitchen knife... because I wanted to. I've heard razors work better, but this did a great job. You want to cut all around the surround.

Step 3

Cut the spiders. I tried to do it without folding the cone (I don't know why) but it was much easier when you get the cone out of the way. After I folded it, the dust cap popped off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Step 4

Cut the tinsel leads and pull it from the basket. I've never seen an assembled recone before, so I didn't know whether to cut the leads very short or leave them as long as possible. I left them long, although I'm pretty confident the recone kit comes with new tinsel leads.

Here, you can see how fried my BTL was. What happened? After 30 hours of straight working on the car with no sleep, we accidently put the cable we labeled as negative (silver) in the positive on one coil, and visa versa. We then wired the amps wrong ON TOP OF that problem... and the BTL smoked and this is what's left of the coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif WARNING: Not for the faint-hearted

Step 5

Clean debris and don't let anything get in that gap! I used a powerful Dyson vacuum cleaner and taped the gap with packing tape.

That's it for now, I'm going to take a flathead screw driver to clean up the basket a little.

Are most subwoofers hand assembled in the first place? Seems like alot of room to make small errors that would cause changes in the sq of a subwoofer.

nice i cant wait to hear the numbers it puts up with 2 good coils. Where in flordia is hollywood cause im gunna be down there in mid feb and would love to here it if you close.
