there is a lot of room for advancement as a waiter. if you can get in a chili's and learn a little bit then find a job at an upscale restaurant, you can make alot of money. waiting tables isnt for everyone, you have to be able to put a bullshit smile on you face no matter how bad of a day your having. if you can bs and act then you can make good money, but if you show you emotion too well, your tips will reflect that.

Faking it is hard for some people.

You must know that you have to deal with some not so first rate people. Be preppared to be run ragged by expecting customers. Apparently every one has worked in the business and knows their shit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You will be the front line, go as far as you can with the customer before you offer to have them speak with the manager or they will think you are some inexperienced punk.

Don't get pissed if you get sat the regular customers who tip shitty, give them fast service and flip the table quicker and get them out. It will always be worth it to tip the server assistant a little better than expected. If you do, they will have no problem helping you that extra little bit when you are slammed and need it. Be propper, Sir and Ma'am I always use. When you are busy don't sit and throw a little hissy fit, you waste even more time that way. If you can't greet your table quick enough just swing by and tell them you will be with them in a couple moments. That will buy you some time and they won't sit there and wonder if they are even noticed. Remember that people would always be happier waiting in front in a line rather than waiting for a server at their table. Now I'm rambling... good luck

i hated working in an environment with food. people pissed me off.

for sure. i was a cook at Bob Evans for a year, i couldn't stand the smell of it, it just like stuck to you, when i came home i'd take 2 showers and STILL smell.

and i hated the atomosphere, dealing with servers, getting food sent back, shitty high school educated managers, i dreaded going to work everyday, but it was pointless for me to find another job because i was still in school, could only work 20 hours, and made 12 dollars an hour, and that was the biggest run-on sentance ever.

i recently switched up jobs (now that im out of school), and i work in a warehouse now loading trucks, still not the best job, but way better than before.

food service is diffrent for alot of people, some hate it, some love it. just give it a try and see what you like best

for me.... food service FTL

EDIT: also, some resturants only give serving positions by senority, because they make more money of course, you might have to start as like a dishwasher, or ***** boy for awhile, especially if you don't have any prior seving experiance.

try out waiting but like mentioned above you might have to earn the position..i was a busboy at a restaurant..wasnt bad just moved dishes off the table and reset it..got a part of the tips and never had to deal with customers...

When I am at restaurant I hate it when the waiter doesn't frequent too often. Restaurants usually offer free refills for soft drinks but how am I going to get a refill if there is no one to refill it.

Always ask the customer if they want a refill.

Well my mom waited on tables most of her life when she was younger. It is a pretty cut throat type of job and you have to deal with some shady people who will give you a load of shit and skip out on you from time to time. The only thing I remember was my mom coming home some nights with over 200 bucks in tips in a 10 hour shift. Wasnt like that every night though. Just depends when you work and how good the tippers are that night.

i wouldn't do it. i worked fast food and i'd rather be in the kitchen then serving people. i've gotten fired for calling a customer and *******, and nearly got fired for telling a customer i hope they choke on their sandwich. i hate people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I waited tables at Red Robin for awhile, then moved to bartender....it's good money.

I just put my 2 weeks in to open a new Chili's restaurant. If you have the chance, get hired into a grand opening restaurant. The $$ at new restaurants for servers is AMAZING (for college kids).

i just recently quit my job as a server assistant and its good money. u get money everyday so ur never broke. but i just cant stand people *****en about there food and drinks and stuff like that. so it has its pros and cons

Waiting tables is a pretty cool job for a while. The tips are Definately a Great thing, especially if the resturant is in a busy part of town.

oh yah Chilis FTW! lol i've worked there since i was 16. Pretty good job if you can put up with the shitty customers.
