hemp is one of the most incredible fibers in the world. its too bad we dont make/use it more often.

as for why would they use banana hemp, but advertise a cannabis leaf? well, its pretty obvious. it gets a different crowd to buy into it, just cause its "hemp". doesnt really matter what it is, but rather, what it suggests.

edit: hmm, only 10% hemp in the cone? to me this suggests they used it just to be able to say it has hemp in it, instead of the actual benefits it may/maynot have as a cone material.

I'm thinking about getting some of the 8" full range drivers made by Hemp Acoustics...supposedly they do pretty well and are very efficient, I'm not usually a fan of whizzered drivers though.

Yeah, marketing people would never lie, would they? If the website shows a pot leaf and the logo is "high fidelity" that must be proof its canabis hemp right? Sorry, but it is in fact banana hemp, straight from John Janowitz's mouth:

"There is funny thing about all this hemp everyone is using in cones lately.... are you ready.... It's not even cannabis hemp. I met the guy who did all the research behind the material. They tried to find a way to use cannabis hemp, but found it was literally useless as a material for cones. The only way it could be used at all was to take a small percentage, maybe 10% and mix it in with standard paper fibers and that would actually decrease the strength and damping of the paper itself. What they are actually using is manilla hemp, which comes from a banana tree. It's a very long, strong fiber that has good damping properties for a cone material. Bet that's not in the manual. It should come with a picture of a banana on the cone instead. That would be interesting, although i don't think it would sell that well.
