Just turned loudness off..

Okay, I hear how loudness is bad and all, but when I sat in a demo van with 4 T2 15"s and a t4000, it didn't start hurting until they turned that on. It was loud without it, but I couldn't see shit once he hit it.

when i turned it off it sounded much more clear to me and i felt like i didnt lose any output.. i was skeptical when at 30 vol it wasnt beatin like it did when i had loudness on but once u keep turning it up its like it was before, but was more clear to me.. if that makes sense

well my HU has 5v preouts.. and people always say that over 75% volume starts to clip the signal? its still listenable at over 75% volume but arent i clipping it then?
all head units are different, some clip sooner than others. If its not clipping then you can turn the gain up.
Right. I have a

What exactly does loudness do? Boost the pre-amp voltage?
Basically a bass boost but applies to more than just subbass frequencies.
It boosts the high and the low end, but it only does it at lower volume. I think mine turns off at 1/2.

and HOLY SHIT does it make a difference.. i thought my system sounded good before.. now it sounds AMAZING..
can someone tell me exactly what loudness even does? i know it makes it louder at lower volume levels but whats the deal with the 12 db slope thing i dont know what that means..

and is it ok to turn my HU volume up higher or set my gain higher now that i have loudness off? originally i went to 60/80 vol but i turned it up to 70 just a little bit ago i went for a cruise after i searched and saw loudness is a POS setting and it still sounded good.
It's equivalent to the grenade launcher in Call of Duty 4. Once you actually figure out what you're doing, you won't ever use it.

It boosts the areas in the extremes of the frequency range that our ears are less sensitive to so we hear them better when the volume is low. IMHO when you crank it though your treble and sub bass can eclipse your mid range where there's ALOT going on. Less distortion and flatter freq response is probably why turning it off resulted in such an improvement.

For some reason I have the opposite happening when I turn loudness off everything is gone.
Figure out what's wrong with your equipment or your tuning. With loudness off and nothing boosted I hear as much of everything as I need to in almost any given type of music. And my setup is not super elaborate or full of super high end equipment or anything.

it means he likes how it sounds, sounding good is subjective. Let him enjoy his system, he's not competing in sq.geesh.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
who the fuck said anything about competing in SQ comps?

even if 'sounding good' is subject, he should still have his own guidelines to define what sounding good means.

sounds good means i enjoy how it sounds and it doesnt sound like its distorting at all.. i know that even thought i think it sounds good i still may be clipping which is why i want to know if its bad to go to 70/80 vol.. it still sounds good at 70 but idk if im clipping or not

You're labeled as an SQ guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Must be because you have an IB setup and you use a processor....or could be because you're not hitting 150+ dB.
