I had a similar problem before with another headunit, I doubt its defective. It has to do with the power antenna wire. I forgot exactly but i'll find out tom. and let you know

Are you using the internal amp or external? If you are using only external amps, maybe you connected the remote signal to the antenna signal.

^^^ ding! ding! ding! It sounds like you have an external amp that is not getting a signal to turn on unless the antenna is on. Please connect it to the proper remote turn on lead.

Power antenna is solid blue, Remote wire is blue with white stripe...thats your issue.

yep that was the problem. I ended up returning the HU though. I didntl ike the fact that the faceplate could not come off. im looking into stock or other decks in the 300 region
