I'll tell ya how good ..... I just bought an " extra " one to put in my closet. For the eventual day when the one I'm using now finally quits working //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Matter of fact , I MAY just buy another one to store too ! That would make a total of 4 of them I have bought //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I've heard the " competition " , and found it lacking .... The only other HU I consider on the same playing field is ..... well umm .... That is to say ..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Here's some sexy photos .... LOL

Ok, I hear ya Blue....what's the competition though? I've heard great things about the deck....but you haven't made the case for me to justify having 3 back ups //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i'd probably get it if i ever ran a 3 way active front stage. but i don't forsee myself spending that kind of money ($800 or so for a new one now or around there) for running a 2 way active front stage. i wouldn't be using that HU to its potential. but that 9255 is one sexy mofo.

Ha ha ha ..... They're not ALL back -ups. One's in the car I'm driving , one's in my wife's car , one's a back-up .... and I'm thinking about getting another back-up to boot.

My sincere , no joking opinion ? There is NO single box competition for this deck. The Nak would probably be closest , but has quality control issues. The P9 isn't EVEN as musical , and the F-1 status sounds cold and sterile compared to the DRZ.

If I were spending less , I would probably look at the Kenwood 25th anniv deck , then the Eclipse offerings.

Having TWO back-ups isn't THAT far out there. I wish to hell and back I would have bought an extra Alpine 7909 anniv edition !!!

Does that thing have an analog volume control?
It has a Burrr Brown 0.5dB step control , that is smoother than Carmen Electra's rounded azz cheek with baby oil rubbed on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif It feels as if it belongs on a $5,000 high end home pre-amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

To further expound , I give you these things that were said about the DRZ in a 4 way shoot out against the Alpine F-1 , Nak CD700 , and Pioneer P-9 .....

Clarion: Ah yes, now it's starting to come together, for the first time Rebbecca was actually singing to us.... not being played through a system. The top end was smoother than P9, and not quite as emphasised as the F1, and the same for the midbass, a little light perhaps.. but comparison with the Nak will determine wether the Clarion is light, or the Alpine heavy.

Clarion: Trumpet player appears to be in the back garden.. Sara'h, rather spookily, seems to have turned set up shop a few feet behind the speakers and her voice really did seem to envlop you.. granted the sound felt a little.... flat after the Alpine, but the whole system did just disappear for the first time in the test.

Here's the test review in it's completition : http://http://www.nearfieldaudio.co.uk/foru...=asc&&start=20

Do I think it's worth buying back-ups ? Well ... considering it has silver plated OFC RCA cables , non-clipping outputs , a DC to DC converter that weighs as much as some small amps and utilizes 8 guage power and ground cables , as well as stepping up the voltage to 15 volts ...... Yeah , buy back ups //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

^^^Linky no worky....I've read that review anyways. Hell man glad you like them...I just might pick one up too as that is definitley the deck for me for a full-on 4 way active escapade of Clarion magic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Here's another great review of the DRZ in case anyone is interested: http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=016311#000000

Hmmm . I don't know what the puck is wrong with that linky , but it no worky. ( I feel like Jar Jar Binks now )

You can always type it in your browser bar .... It's a great article.

Wow, putting my newcoming deck (it already shipped today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ) in the same thread as a budget alternative to this deck.. I'm feeling that much better about my new choice.

But in what's in the market to compete with the 9255..

What about the Mac unit?

http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/mcprod/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=33&cat=Control+Centers+%26+CD+Changers&prodid=1077&product=MX406

That thing looks like a cd-only SQ beast as well.. Though any processing becides dig to analog would have to be external. I wish I knew where I read it.. possibly here somewhere that Mac, Clarion and Nakamichi and/or Denon had some ties somewhere in these SQ units production. That's just hearsay and speculation though.. I've no evidence to present.

Ok Bro's.. I'm officially hooked on this forum. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I better get my A#$ back over to avsforum to read about dricore, Bower and Wilkens speakers and how the Servo 15 v.2 is flat down to 16hz. hehe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

The DRZ is a fine deck. I wish the crossover points were a little more flexible, that phase could be switched for a single driver instead of the pair, but this is all being knitpicky. My previous deck, a Clarion HX-D1, had a better "feeling" volume knob. Buttery smooth, no clicks. At this point, I wouldn't trade it for any other deck.....with the exeption of a black Denon R1 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .

As an all in one source-processor, it's an amazing piece.......

I owned two of the MX-406 head units , and they were great players , but were dual 20 bit DACs whereas the DRZ has dual 24 bit DACs and really great built in DSP modes. The Clarion sounds better hands down.
