ok i have a set of kenwood tweeters and i just got a set of gs designs 6.5" mids that i got 5+ years ago sold and now they are back to me....my amp is 38x4 or 75x2 rms, im gonna get an x-over for them but should i keep the cap on the tweeters and keep them off the H/U and run just the mids off the amp to ensure enough power...or should i run both off the 75x2...

^^which brings me to my second question...

if i have the mids and the tweets both on one channel of the bridged 150.4 it goes into protect...will the crossover keep it from doing this or am i stuck???

thanks guys,

Like what? Passive or active?

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I don't get it. Passive crossover, correct? Why would it go into protect? As long as each speaker is atleast 4ohm, you shouldn't run into any problems running the amp below it's lowest stable impedence (even when bridged).

see the thing is i dont have any type of x-over for either of them right now but i have the tweets with a 9.95"uf" capiciter off the H/U. so i guess i just need to now a place to get an x-ver to run them off of, unless i could use resistors and capacitors to create one??

thanks squeak

Well, you can use coils and capacitors to make one, since that's all passive xovers are. However, doing this would be far less than ideal as you would have to guess at what frequency and slope to use.

What amp do you have? Links to the speakers?

ok well the amp is a kicker 150.4...

tech-support/manuals/manuals/03KX1504Manual.pdf

the 6.5" mids are 4 ohm gs designs, around 5 years old and a company that was never really big, but they have a (most likely overkilled) huge magnet and if i remeber correctly can supposedly handle 200 max 125 rms??? but i am not positive which kinda sux, i looked and looked for specs but i cant seem to find them, along time ago i have them running off a kicker x-over that came with some components a friend had a gave to me, cant remember which...

and these are the kenwood tweeters, bought for extremely cheap w/o the x-overs..

thanks again squeak, you always seem to be the one to answer me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, keep people like me from wasting money payin other shmucks to do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

also right now i have a set of polk ex602aa coaxials in rear and alpine type-s coaxials up from which i plan on taking out both if these components work out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That's sweet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif Since you have such a bad *** HU and a 4-channel amp, you don't even need to worry about an external crossover (active or passive). Just put one speaker per channel (1 tweet on channel 1, 1 tweet on channel 2, 1 mid on channel 3 and the last mid on channel 4), and using the HU's front preouts (ran to ch 1 & 2 or the amp), rear preouts (ran to ch. 3 & 4 of the amp) and internal xover, you can run an active setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Highpass the tweets on the front preouts and bandpass the mids on the rear preouts. If you want to keep your rearfill, run them off of the HU's internal amplifier.

ok because i had 1 channel per coaxial and it was no louder than the H/U and barely cleaner so i brigded it to just on set of coaxials and made a huge difference so i wasnt sure...thanks
