Just do it right the first time.

To all you cheap bastards out there, do your shit right the first time.

I'm a broke/starving college kid who spends all his money on audio, but as much as iv'e spent I regret not doing things right from the start more than anything.

First I had a Type R, which I thought would be loud but wasn't what I was hoping. I really wanted an HDC3 but couldn't afford it.

Now i'm finally getting a BTL, but in the process of getting here iv'e owned a Type R, Fi Q, IA Lethal Injection, and in the process lost a crapload of money from reselling. Not to mention having three boxes sitting in my room I have no use for. And having to rerun wire through my car 3x to handle more power.

Moral of the story: Don't be cheap. Just get what you want. If you don't, you'll end up like the rest of us who are never happy and want to be louder all the time, which will cost you even more money. Of course, that is all the fun of being here on CA.com //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I somewhat agree with you.... Most don't know that they want... Car audio is easily one of those things where you get "bored" very easily with a current setup. I am always satisfied with a system RIGHT when I finish it, but a couple of months later I'm bored and want to switch it up. This is a hobby that is going to cost you a lot of money unless you have the will power to accept a current system which is nearly impossible. I would agree with running BIG wire to start as you are destined to add more power later as you get bored and "used" to your current setup.

lol, yeah. I know it's all about always wanting more...

But at the same time, there has to be a limit to where you stop...at least for me and those with limited monetary supplies. I'm sure i'll grow tired of the BTL in awhile too, but the point was that for those who know what they want, just get it and don't cheap out and regret it forever.

But yes, though it has cost alot it has been very fun getting to where I am now.

Ive upgraded a few times...It seems like no matter where you start you always want to more after. Id think if i started with some DD's or W7's and a 1000W rms amp id want more after a month or 2.

i never knew what i wanted. and i went through the same thing you have, and i still dont know what i want.

i started out with 800w and 2 12's, the moved on to a single sub setup with 1500w, then to 2 15's and 4kw, then to an 18 with 3.5kw, with a couple temp setups in between there.

ive ran some 8's, a couple 10's, many 12's, a 15, and an 18 and i have never been satisfied.

i mean i have but not for long.

personally to me though, if you stay with one setup forever, its really not a hobby. the thing i love the most about car audio, is installing it, working on it, tuning it, and seeing the outcome.

then ill keep the setup for 1 month maybe 3, then sell it and move on.

i love it and nothing will ever keep me away

I guess I function the opposite way. When putting together a system, I listen critically, and try to find and fix various performance-driven issues. Those issues can range from tonal anomalies to vibrating door cards. Once the problems are handled, the right gear is installed, and the system is tuned to my satisfaction, I'm done. The system is then used for its intended function - listening to music. If I find myself getting bored, the nearest record store is only a few miles away.

Wish somebody would of told me this thousands of dollars ago, still it's kinda fun,i change systems every few months or so,but i always sell my old shit,so the items just buy themselves, only you might have to wait a bit to get rid of some stuff, plus all your songs are like new again because you get to test them on your new shit! you can only get louder!
