Just curious how jl 10w7's compare to alpine 10' type Rs

Ok so i have pretty much decided to purchase 2 10w7's from jl audio but my buddies keep steering me toward Alpine type R's.

So my question is are the jlaudio 10w7's that much better than the alpine type R's?

better sound quality. i havent used the w7 personally, but from what ive heard online they have pretty good output, probably close or better than the Type R if you keep the power around 500-600w. not sure how it would like 1000w, but the Type R will shine with 1000w

the 2 subs aren't even comparable, in price or performance. nothing against type R's, as i've used them, and like them, but the w7 is a far better sub.

w7 will be louder and sound better with 1000w+? will it handle that much power?

Type-R is more of a one note wonder-SPL

W7-10 is more of Sound Quailty beast

yes. it will get louder and sound better in the right box. it probably won't be dramatically different in loudness, but the w7 will sound far far better.

juicy jj its going to depend on your ears too, now ive heard nasty sloppy bass, but most of my setups sound "good" to me, even if they are capable of 150db+, which some people say those setups cannot have any sound quality to them... some people just dont have an ear for SQ.

You can build proper boxes for both subs and the w7 will probably sound best, but both will be close in output/SPL. some people running 2 type R 12"s are close to 150db, i dont see that happening with w7's

Thanks guys, so what would be the cheapest amp i could get by with for the 2 jl's? Do any of you guys have any amps for sale that would fit the bill??

no doubt the JL is much better but i personally dont like using them since you dont really get what you pay for them (i dont know if there prices gone down since last year) but i would rather go with FI Audio that just me talking but if your just asking of them to for sure your going to get better performance off the JL

i was running a 10w7 in the wifes olds on a fusion nv-am25001. that amp was about 1200rms at 3 ohms and the w7 seemed to like it very much.

its a very well build sub and has excellent sq and actually got quite loud.

actually i have heard both of these setups both in very similar ext cab trucks... a friend has 2 10W7s on a JL 1000/1 with a strong electrical and his setup absolutely murders the setup my other friend has which consists of two Type R 12s both setups on optimum power although the box on the w7s is professionally designed

this is on music not a test tones
