how do u know it was gonna "pop" em? was the amp setup correctly?

yea, i set the gain with a dmm, and had all my settings right. i would randomly hear a pop sometimes. thats why i wanted to free-air it. so i free aired it at 2 ohms which is 800 rms with the gain completely down. i started moving it up little by little and about 1/3 of the subs power it just popped and started scraping.

But yea thats sad, my JBL p1022 is 400rms and it can take 800 @ 1ohm all day. Sounded great on my pr1000.1

What do you mean by random pop can you elaborate on that?

it would be hitting the lows fine, and randomly TA! then i turn it down and i was like wtf. then a few days later again. it would mostly happen when i would be bangin for like 20 mts.

I was looking at the ssa dcons but im not sure yet.and i wasnt aiming to pop it i was aiming for that sound i would hear.it just happened to pop before i could.lol.

dude, l5s die easy. i had a kx1200.1 on 2 of em and the amp was tuned correctly, no clipping and after playing em for maybe 15 minutes not even at full bore id start to smell coil burning and turn it off and see smoke coming from the ports i did this like 10 times before i sold them to a kid that was only running 300 watts to each. they kept playing but the coils were gettin thermal

It sounds like u might have just been over doing the wattage on them maybe clipping the amp could have done them in who knows but yea id go with something besides kicker now. Are you still going to use the same sound stream amp?

not about the L5 in all honesty, or the brand. its the fact that the OP is blaming something else for his stupidity is all.

yea, i was looking for some d4vc 12's 500rms each. **** squares. im sticking to round. i'v never had this prob. with round speakers. maybe the bass was just different idk?
