Just an idea to lower gas prices

Another problem with this plan. If all the other stations get this sudden influx of customers from Exxon and Mobil and all their subsidiaries, they are going to use their gas supplies up quicker and guess what, they buy it from whoever they can get it from. This is especially true of these small chains that are not connected to a petroleum company. They have no loyalty to one company they buy it for as cheap as they can get it. So you will still be buying it from Exxon and Mobil. The only real solution is to not buy it from anyone. And that will never happen in this country.

Doesn't fix the problem just leads to a monopoly rather than oligopoly on the market making the situation worse. Oil and gas (energy) needs to be federalized and controlled in order to protect the economy. Hopefully the government will someday realize this.

wont lead to a monopoly... and the government has some of the top economists working for it, they know what could work, there are just always politics in the way of making drastic changes

This plan is also probably the most stupid I've heard, nobody is going to drive an extra 20 miles or more everytime they need to fill up to avoid the big gas company's stations... Why dont people realize there is no simple fix to the problem?!

Another alternative, but it would take a LOT of lobbying.
Everyone remembers from the economics thread how I feel about government subsidations? (the best subsidations are no subsidations and all sellers need to a adapt to the marketplace to survive rather than beg the governmnet for help - which is something it was never set up to do)

Biodiesel engines are cleaner burning and get better mpg than current petrol vehicles. Also, diesel engines have the potential to run almost forever without nickel and diming you.

Every year, hundreds of thousands (probably hundreds of millions) of pounds of crops are burned each year because the marketplace isn't fit for the flood of staple crops that farmers produce.

Well, where I'm going with this is this: There is a biodiesel fuel that can be made from excess crops. I'm not familiar with the process but essentially the crops are turned in to a crude biodiesel fuel. It's cost effective, but not a lot of cars run on it. Flex Fuel vehicles have the capability to, iirc. There would be no more agriculture subsidations, the market place would be fereocious once again, and we'd essentially have all the fuel we would need, provided farmers kept up current production and didn't overtax the land.

better for the enviroment? better for our government? better for the economy? better for farmers AND you? win/win/win/win/win situation if you ask me. Again, all we need are the refining capabilities.
totally about that! veggie oil FTW!

If you want cheaper oil you're going to have to kill every chinese, indian, or asian in general thus lowering the issue of supply vs. demand. It's not an American problem, its a world problem. And for the record, I'm 100% against the use of any coal-based/hybrid fuel...call me a hippie, i don't care.

Now if you really want cheap fuel, legalize hemp, get your head out of your capitalistic ideals, and look at the bigger picture. The problem with renewable fuels is just that, they are renewable. What company can make money on something that is easy to produce and abundant all over the world? The technology is there, just look at Brasil...the problem lies in the fact that major companies can make more $$$ controlling what little supply of oil there is than they can from renewable resources.

I got an idea! Why don't we mention what company people should buy from in that email so that way its in there mind that they should buy from so ans so station. But first tell me what station we are going to send people to so I can dump every penny I have into that stock:D

there is a way to get what we want. If we all decide not to buy gas for a couple of days the prices would tremendously drop. jus like wit he mexicans they will get there way if they continue to boycott. We have to join together and work together to get what we want

yea and soon we will give in and they will get there way. but its real simple to crack the government they make so much money off of us jus getting gas its rediculous it makes u ask urself y is our government in debt. But if everyone boycotted against the gas prices the government will hear us because there money decrease if we decide to not fill up for like 2 days

Why are you against coal-based or veggie-based oils? If there's some reasonale explaniation as to why a seeminly good idea is bad, please explain. And none of this food for the food-less crap. Hippie

I never said I was against veggie fuels. Coal on the other hand is another story. Sure its cheap, and yeah we use it to generate electricity and yadda yadda yadda but its dirty. End of story. If you have the technology to produce cleaner fules (which the world does) why would you resort to using coal (another non-renewable resource) instead or even in conjunction?
