jump starting from back batteries

I've heard of people doing that, I don't see why you couldn't or shouldn't. Give it a shot and let us know lol

As long as you're jumping it properly it won't hurt anything.

Why not just have the front battery wired into the rear bank?

He probably does, might be easier to get to the rear battery to jump it. Say if you backed into a parking spot and the guy behind you said he could jump you, just pop the trunk and hook in right there. Then he also isn't blocking other cars from getting out. Not to mention the front battery might be in a hard spot to get to with jumper cables.
