$35k / 12 months = $2,916.67 per month; the $2,100 was after taxes.$17k / 12 months = $1,416.67 per month; I'll bet you're bringing home about $1200 per month after taxes.
I didn't go back to school until I was 26. Up until that point I had never made more than 18k in a year and was just sick of it. When I went back I had no idea what to go for but took some business classes. My first semester I took an accounting class and was hooked; a big reason was because my professor was amazing and explained things so well. It just made sense to me. I went to community college first, graduated, and then went to Le Moyne College and graduated. I worked my absolute *** off in school because I knew what was on the other side. Now I'm making over 40k/year but have some student loans. However, you could work some using your skills and not have the loans that I do, or go to a state school instead. I am making enough to live a decent life and having been on the other side, I would do it all over again if need be!
My point is that you can drift from job to job wishing you made more money or go to school and have companies clamor to hire you. When you get to choose which job to take and have the companies come to you for your services, it's a whole different outlook. It doesn't matter what you go to school for right now; most people have no idea when they are freshmen. It's all part of the process. At some point in college you will find something you enjoy doing academically, then you pursue it. Even if you graduate with a generic business degree you will get hired over anyone that doesn't. I have been in a position to interview people and hire them. Knowing the sacrifice it takes to get a degree I am always impressed by that. I am not as impressed by smart people who don't have one because they didn't feel like putting in the time. There are a few lucky people out there who do have good jobs without one, but that's luck and not necessarly skill; there are some exceptions of course. The guy who works at CompUSA may have a good job now, but what happens in a few years when CompUSA becomes irrelevant and closes like every other retailer does? Then luck is relied upon to find an equivalent job. I wish you luck either way my friend.
