JL's not tough enough?

Have you or a friend ever blown a JL?

I for one, personaly, have subs because I get a kick out of that feeling you get in your chest from bass.
I enjoy the occasional back massage myself. 6 10W6s eating a total of only 800W RMS could give you heart palpitations. They were actually seeing much less than that. I never got the volume knob past half way with the sub volume up. I couldn't sit in the car anymore, it was just too loud. You can get more then enough impact with far less power than most people think. That is one of the great things about the JL subs. They don't NEED much power.

I don't remember if it was this thread, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If all you want is loud bass, there are a ton of solutions out there that will give you what you want and cost much less than the JL's. If you want accurate bass, that gets pretty d@mn loud and doesn't need a dedicated nuke power plant to keep enough current going to the amp then the JL's might be just what you are looking for. There is no one perfect woofer for everyone. If there was, there would only BE one woofer made. JLs aren't for everyone, but for people like me, they are just what I am looking for.

Never had a complaint about mine not being loud enough, that's for sure. I was only running 133 each to them, too. Found the resonant frequency of my vocal chords one night. It hurt to talk for a week. I'm not saying that they don't get loud enough for a sane person, they get plenty loud for most. It's these 1kW+ idiots that always trash on them cause they don't get as loud as other subs. I for one don't want or need that kind of power and I don't have any use for a sub that "needs" at least a kW to "sound good." For most people it seems these days the quality of their bass is measurable in dBs. A lot of subs may give what they think is "tight" bass. They've got no basis for comparison. They've never heard "tight" bass. They've never listened to an accurate system. The bass in the systems they heard was so loud that they felt the impact so it must be "tight," right. Doesn't matter that you can't distinguish a bass guitar from a bassoon.
Big amps are cheap these days so you must "need" a big amp for good sound. It doesn't matter that your 1.5kW beast is only really ever delivering *maybe* 400W RMS to your subs and then only for really short periods of time because your ears can't stand the high SPL and you have to turn it down. Either that or the subs are made with high power handling in mind so the suspension is so stiff that it takes 600W to get the sub to play audibly so that 1kW really is needed. You know who loves that kind of inefficiency? Alternator and battery manufacturers.

Well you bassheads enjoy it while you can. While you can hear that is. I'll stick with my 133W per sub system and enjoy hearing all the music that you are missing. I will enjoy laughing at you while you pull your hair out trying to figure out how to get enough current to your power hungry sub and amp. Then I'll laugh even harder when you listen to my system and swear that I must have at least 1500 watts and I show you my cute little red amp rated at 400W into 1 ohm and my factory alternator and my efficient setup. If it isn't loud enough for you then you need to get your hearing checked.
OK..............

hell yeah helotaxi

i've got a 12W7 in a sealed box running off a titanium 1000.2 and i swear it makes sounds i never knew existed. maybee you can get a few L7's or other subs to get louder, but i don't care about being the loudest kid on the block, i just want every note to sound the way it was supposed to, and that INCLUDES bass/subbass notes. oh, and JL DOES get loud, it just stays clean.

oh, and btw, do you know where i can get one of those nuke powerplants for my system, i'm low on juice ;^)

ha ha haaa! I'm low on uranium too! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/driving.gif.c4dead4599dda895032b63e51f52b126.gif

LOL...

Just looked at this closed survey...

57% percent of the people claim that THEY have blown a JL subwoofer...

I'd bet my left nut that less than 50% of the people on this forum have blown A subwoofer, much less happened to be a JL subwoofer... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Particularly in the light of JL's known conservative (and to the degree where they have been accused of being dishonest) underrated thermal powerhandling specs.

It's like an honesty test for the whole forum...

...is there little anti-JL vibe here? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

Seriously, can you trust what you are told on a forum, when there's documented proof of embellishment?

Just something to ponder... just happened to come across this...

Scroll up, give it a look, and then think about what you've read today, and what you've mentally filed away today, and where it came from...

jls dont blow assuming that they are setup properly and arnt bought from a shanty place that is selling Bstock... theres a reason that stuff isnt warenttyed and a reason its much cheaper than any authorized retailer... which then if it blew they would give you a new one...
