Hello,
I picked up a couple of JL Audio amplifiers really cheap (Tweeter store was selling them at like 70% off, I hear they are going bankrupt, keep an eye out, they carry slash series too......). The amps I got are from the A series....
- A1400 Monoblock
- A4300 4 channel
I will only use one of the amps to drive one or two subwoofers. I don't need anything really loud, but I do want to be able to feel it, up front. My car's trunk is sealed off, so I figure I will need a bit of power.
So I am wondering
1.) is it better to use the monoblock or the 4 channel and in what configuration? In the past I have had dual subs, but I don't have to do that again. I figure I could
- run the monoblock into one good 12" at 2 or 4 ohms (at 2 ohms it says I get 500 W RMS, 320 at 4 ohms)
- run the monoblock into two 10" at 2 ohms (HOW MUCH POWER PER SPEAKER WOULD I GET, 500/2???)
- run the 4 channel, bridged to 2 channels into two 10" at 4 ohms (it says 220W per channel)
2.) I plan to mate these with JL Audio subs, WHICH ONES WOULD BE BEST, given the power I'd be putting out? The guy at the local store offered me a box with 2 10" W3s for $250.
Thanks!
P.S. for reference of how loud I want it, I have been running 2 bazooka 8" tubes in my old toyota hatchback for years and they are plenty loud for me, with the gain turned down pretty much. They are each getting about 85-90 W RMS each. But the hatch isn't sealed at all (like the car the new install will go into), so it doesn't take much for it to get loud.
