Jl10w6v2 how deep is my bass supposed to sound??

Hi all, I have a JL10w6v2 in a zenclosure type r box running off a jl 500/1 amp and a clarion deck. Now my problem is that the bass just sounds loud and I can't feel the bass like i want it. when i turn the bass up enough to feel it it hurts my ears and the pulsing sound drowns out a lot of my music. everything is hooked up properly and i think it's just how it is.

Now i've come with an ideas why this may be the case please correct me if i'm wrong or give me advice please.

it's because it's a 350z hatchback. the subs in my previous cars were in the trunks so only the bass itself would reach me in the driver seat. however because the Z is a hatch the pulsing of the air around the sub reaches me directly.

I would really like some deep bass and wonder if going to a 12" would give me the bass i want. unfortunately i doubt my box would allow a JL12w6v2 to fit, but how would a JL12w3v3 sound incomparison to my current sub?

specs of box

Approx. .80 cubic feet of airspace.

Constructed with 3/4" MDF Board

Sealed air tight

Any opinions appreciated thank you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know this may be a big hassle, but could those of you with 1 jl10w6v2 with 500/1 amp setups (i know there's quite a few) please post the settings of your amp. I know it depends on the deck settings and type of music but I really can't set my amp to make it sound good so if you like your sub sound please post settings. I've posted pics of my amp with the different settings available for adjustment.

If you're talking about bass you want to feel in your chest, get a 15. I had that feeling with a 15L7 I had, then when I went down to 10 inch woofers, I knew I wasn't gonna get that.

hahaha i'd try a few settings with ur amp first...

#1: turn the "Q" all the way to 4.0

#2: turn the amp low-pass filter frequency WAY up, (like around 80) and change the slope to 24db

#3 if that still doesn't work try turning the bass boost to around +2 dbs and then playing with the center frequency a little (start at 20hz and work your way up)

i have a single 10w6v2 in my car, in a sealed box built to specs, sounds great... maybe ur box is a bit too big?

thx a lot!! that's a really awesome answer i'm gonna go outside and try it now. hehe my friends really good at installations but not so good at tuning which is why i'm having a difficult time with my good setup.

But thx cotjones you are the man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

see your low-pass filter frequency setting is determing where the frequency will start cutting off, (with a slope of 12db's or 24dbs)

see if the filter is set at 40 it doesn't completely cut off anything above 40hz, it slopes off, so the higher you get above 40 the quieter it is...

limiting your sub that low allows for only the low (boomy) bass to get through,

the tighter, punchy bass is higher frequency (50-70) hz... and with a w6 i would say set it around 80 because that would make even snare drums and higher bass (like in the song "i'm so hood" with t-pain and dj khaled) sond awesome, and kick while still giving you the boom on the lows....

the "Q" is supposed to tighten the curve of the bass boost, but i find even when the boost is almost off that it makes the sound much tighter and cleaner, not as boomy and sloppy

Instead of making a new thread i decided to use this one. I hope the thread starter dont mind even though its been a year.

Anywhoo... I just upgraded from a 12W3v3 to a 10W6v2. And after using it for a week, i'm starting to miss my 12W3v3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I have a kicker 750.1 pushing the 10. And it doesn't move with rock music. I cant hear the bass drum in Rock music and Alternative. Compared to what the 12 sounded like with the same amp. The 10 sounds good with rap. But it doesnt hit with other music. I have to turn the gain up and sub woofer volume on my display unit as well. I never had to do this with my 12. And the 12 was hooked up for 4Ohms which was only getting around 375watts from the same amp.

Id think 750watt would sound better. But it seems like the 10 cant do what my 12 use to. Am i miss something here? (The 10 is running at 2ohms).

Should i just upgrade to a JL 12W6v2? I really like the SQ on the 10 but its just not pleasing me with alternative, rock, latin, jazz, music. Rap it really hits the lows well. But with my other music my 12w3v3 sounded better.
