Jl w3s or image dynamics

i'm not quite sure but i think anything over 600 watts on those voids the warranty with JL but it's nice to know you can overpower them that much and still get away with it

personally i would go with the IDQs if i were you...

theyre far cheaper, same output, better SQ, and you get to experience something other than JL

im personally indifferent about JL, they majke good products but they're way overpriced and mainstreamed..

ID is a little different and less known - people will be like holy crap!

I personally would go with the JL's, I own 2 12 w3's and love them. They sound good and get pretty loud. I've never had exp. with ID but from what i hear there pretty good. I would say try to listin to both with the music that you listin to and make the decision youself.

Holy crap...I used to have two 12w3's and i never knew i could push them that hard...Thats crazy
yup

and i plan on buying one more 10w3 to play with.....i'm actually thinking about doing a 7th order bandpass box tuned at 30hz...and see how it sounds

i will not put 600watts 2 it..i'll probably do 200watts...being that the box is going to be ported from the front and the back of the sub...and the box is going to be much bigger so i will not need as much power

Idv3 if you listen to mostly rap, IDQ if mainly rock. Thats straight form eric at ID. Id suggest the IDv3 they are a great woofer for money.

Or dont listen to the ID suggestion and get w3's, which ive owned 7 of. 3 10's, 4 12's and I would never buy them again, especailly when my other option is a idv3. But "hears" the best advice:

Get what sounds best to you!!

Id chose the ImageDynamics subs over the JL's. When chosing between the IDv3 and the IDQ(v2), keep in mind a few things. The IDv3 actually has more displacement potential (more excursion) so it can get louder than the IDQ, and is cheaper, but the IDQ's big advantage is enclosure size. IDQ's can work in -extremely- small enclosures, IDv3's require more air space. Since you already have a box, the available airspace should dictate which sub you get.

best advice i've gotten so far. Thanks! i'm startin to lean heavily towards the image subs just so i can get off the JL bandwagon for a lil while.

which one?? keep in mind my box is sealed with .8^3 each side and still haven't bought an amp

ID12d4 v.3- Xmax of 17mm, rec power of 250, and enclosure reccom. of .8-1.5 cu ft, 88.6db sensitivity

IDQ12d4 v.2- Xmax of 13.7mm, rec power of 350, and enclosuer reccom. of .55-1.00 cuft, 89.9db sensitivity

if it helps i was tryin to decide between the jl 500/1 amp or phoenix gold ti 600.2 or maybe a xenon

.8 ft is right on the line. Smallest recommended by ID for the IDv3. They might be okay in that box, otherwise its the IDQ's for you. Call ImageDynamics and ask them which they'd recommend, they love helping people with their products.

o and a side note...the more xmax a speaker has the less distortion
While I understand what you mean (you've been reading squeak's posts havent you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif), simply saying more xmax = less distortion is not exactly true. Two subs given the same excursion level, the one with more xmax is working less to reach that point, so yes its distortion threshhold would be less, but that does not mean distortion over all will be less, nor that a speaker will generally have less simply because it has more excursion potential.
