jl prototype box?

anyone seen one of these before? wht is a reasonable price for this setup? the guy says they are a prototype that never made it to production and can't tell me what model the woofers are

it's a downfiring box, hence the terminal on the front.
For a setup like that, maybe $175?

or you could make it yourself for the cost of a sheet of mdf and your time plus any paint/ carpet you want to cover it

A few things people need to realize.JL audio is a business, they are there to make money.If most people are willing to pay $600 for whatever it may be, why make them pay $200 ? Why turn down profit just to make a *****y little internet community or other cheap people happy? They know what their product is worth.And obviously they aren't doing bad, and do not have any problems selling their products.

And a lot of people I know that are into car audio are incapable of building their own enclosure.Sometimes they'd rather spend the time with family, or they might have work.Whatever the reason.It is not wrong for someone to buy an enclosure.

You guys are seriously under estimating the value of a good enclosure.

I would build that sort of enclosure (downfiring) for ~$80-90. It would be built to size for your driver (unlike prefab boxes) if you came to me.

JL probably wants $100-120 just for the enclosure, however. Remember that it is probably sized for thoes drivers though.

A similar prefab (not built to the correct size for your driver) would cost yout $50-60.

No, an enclosure like that would cost more than $20 even if you built it yourself. Just a sheet of MDF and Glue would cost your $25. That is all you really need to have a functional enclosure but if you are screwing that is another $3, caulk $2, Carpet $15, Carpet adheastive $4...just in materials we are talking $45-50.

wow, thanks for all the posts. i figured i would forever look like a tool if i bought that, but i really don't want to spend the time to build a box that might not even be tuned correctly. in any case thanks for the opinions.
