Power can have a big affect on the outcome also. Ex. 4-12" subs with 1000 Watts total =250 Watts per sub. 2-12" subs with 2000 Watts total=1000 Watts per sub. This is where 2-12's can give the 4-12's a problem, of course many things will factor in the outcome but they would be fairly close in actual output.
